Go out and help

I had no idea how to repair a scratch on the paint of a metallic surface and I was going mad trying to find some video online that showed me how to do it.

I tried some suggestions but they were not what I needed. There are not many answers online for my particular problem.

So, I was about to quit and accept to live with that scratch when, while walking in a busy street, I saw an old man creating real masterpieces on metallic plates with his fingers and a few other handmade tools.

I stood there for a few minutes contemplating in awe the ability of that man and the wonderful paintings he was creating in a few minutes, right before an admired crowd.

After a while, he began to pick up his belongings and his unsold paintings, so I decided to approach him and ask for his advice on how to solve my problem. Continue reading

Your limits?

I was visiting Rick and he was very concerned about his future.

His grandfather was a doctor, his father was a doctor and, yes you guessed it, he became a doctor as well.

He had been surrounded by doctors of all kinds all his life. He attended reunions and parties where most people were doctors, his whole world was full of doctors here and doctors there.

That was on one side very good, because that influence had made him a very good doctor, very open to all kind of medicines, not only allopathy. But on the other side it was a terrible thing as well, because he had assumed all his life his role as a doctor.  He could not conceive the idea of doing anything else. Continue reading

The art of healing

“The wish for healing has always been half of health.” – Seneca

Nowadays the word “healing” has been taking different meanings, it can refer to physical healing, moral, mental or spiritual alleviation.

The pharmaceutical industry has been presenting an image of physical healing as something you will obtain only by the consumption of chemical medicaments. Religions have given us the image that spiritual and moral healing (“salvation”) is obtained by attending to a place to worship divinity and follow certain rules implemented by humans etc.

It seems we all have our own concept of healing, but have you noticed that there are people who apparently are searching for healing but that are avoiding it at the same time? Continue reading

Balance

I was trying to keep my balance by walking on a small line drawn on the pavement on my way back home.  I was visualising the way we sometimes try to keep the “balance” in our lives.

Have you seen how the most we try to “force” a new habit, the harder it is?

Food, exercise, positive thinking, new ideas, diets, etc.

The harder I tried to walk on the line without losing my balance, the harder it was to keep it. I easily lost it and I had to make an effort to get back “on the line”. Continue reading

The puzzle

I was listening to a group or people in an event who were talking about how good they were at different expressions of art. Some of them were great painters, others were magnificent musicians, some others were masters in a few more disciplines and that is perfect, you might expect to find all that talent in a gallery. That is normal.

But what was really interesting, at least to me, was the other things they loved and had nothing to do with their main talent.  There was a painter who loved to cook deserts, grow his own vegetables and hiking.  A guitar player who loved bird watching, web design and making his own marmalade. Go and find out

He was a very well known actor, films and soap operas were his main activity, but as happens to every actor one day the phone stopped ringing. For a few years he was able to survive with the money he had made with his career, so he had no financial worries for a while, but when things began to look difficult he got worried and began looking for new adventures.

We talked about his other artistic talents and I asked him about some paintings and sculptures he showed me many years ago, he used to love painting and carving sculptures and he was very good at it. Continue reading

Opinions

One thing you will often hear, even if you request it or not, is the opinion of the others about what you are doing or not doing right now.

Usually we are programmed to give an answer to a comment, even if it is not required from us.  We feel that if we don’t give an answer, even just an “a-ha” kind of answer, the other person will think we are not paying attention to what they are saying.

And that is not the only problem, but to take heed of the opinion of others and take it personally. Continue reading
