Watch your language

I just received a copy of a very interesting study made by three Universities in the United Kingdom on colour perception.

They found a tribe in Africa with a language limited to three words to describe colours.  One word for the dark colours, one for middle range colours and one for very light colours.

To make a long a story short, in one of these studies, they showed different illustrations with different shades of the same colour to members of that tribe and they immediately identified the two shades that had a slight difference. But, when they showed the same illustration to westerners, who did not have different words to define those shades of green, they could not find the difference or took a long time to notice it. They haven´t got different words to describe those colours, therefore those westerners couldn’t find the difference so easily.

But when the scientist showed an illustration with six green squares and one blue square, westerners immediately pointed at the blue square, but people from that tribe couldn’t find it. They have the same word to describe both colours. For them the concept was the same and as colours are concepts we create in our minds, they could not find the difference. Continue reading

 The train

I remember that little train I received as a gift when I was little. It was beautiful and used one of those fat old batteries to feed the engine and a little light it had on the front.

It had these mechanisms attached in the front and in the back sides, it was like little buttons than when pressed changed the direction of the engine, so when the train found an obstacle on its way that pressed this button, the train changed direction and began to go backwards. Same when the train found the end of the track, the back button| was pressed by the obstacle and changed the direction forwards.

It might not sound very impressive when compared to today’s standards in toys technology, but considering that this was a long time ago, to me it was really marvellous then.

After a while, instead of waiting for the train to reach the end of the track and crash against it so it began to go forward, I began to “help it” by using my finger to make it change direction faster.

Then I expanded the track and added a bridge and other details to make the “ride” more fun. I loved it.

Sometimes I feel like that train.

I begin to go forward with no “obstacles” on the way and suddenly an unexpected situation appears and “shifts” my direction making me to go back, sometimes for quite a long time, until “something” stopped me and helped me to change my direction to continue my journey forwards.

Nowadays, after expanding my track with many new options, bridges, tunnels, new landscapes and sceneries. I am working on my inner mechanism in order to avoid going too far backwards. That way I can stop, observe, learn and continue my journey advancing continuously.

Of course that is not as simple as it sounds, I need to learn and plan significantly, since my subconscious mind plays lots of games with my conscious mind, making her believe that some obstacles are real, thus activating the “break system” unnecessarily. But now my brain is getting used to respond in a faster way so she can continue its way faster than before. Continue reading

The external

We constantly talk about our old negative ideas, beliefs and hidden concepts in our mind that keep us sunk in our depression and lack of success.

But we cannot forget that we are inhabitants of a physical universe and that there are external factors as well.

Yes, we create our reality with our feelings and thoughts. Yes, we are responsible for the things that we create and attract to our personal reality and yes, there are other people in this local reality creating and attracting their own things as well, so we are not alone and yes, we are attracting and creating those external factors as well.

Let´s imagine you are an enthusiast of motorcycles. Then you get one or more motorcycles and then attract other people who are passionate about them as well.  Then your “inner circle” could be formed by people who share your hobbies and passions. Continue reading

Doors

I am not a very social person. It is not that I do not love to meet new people, on the contrary, I love to meet new people but what I do not like is big crowds.

I like to focus on a small group of people so we can get to know each other well and I can give these new friends proper attention.  But when you have to meet many people at the same time is when I usually exit the stage left.

Do not get me wrong, I am not really antisocial, (well, not very much.) But I believe every person I meet is like a new window that allows you to see new scenery, new thoughts, new experiences and so on. Continue reading

The best I ever had

Why is it that when somebody dies he or she becomes the best person on the planet?

Why after a love is gone, we realise after a while, that he/she was the “love of our life”?

Why do we have to face loss, in order to find the good aspects of people, places and things?

And you can apply that to practically everything with the exception of abusive people and bad situations. But even in those cases I have seen people who, when an abusive person who made their life a real hell, dies. They begin to find the “good” in them.  Sometimes an excess of dependency? An addiction to old beliefs? Whatever… Continue reading

Are you proud?

After all these years of living your life in your own way, after acquiring habits, ideas, skills and knowledge and creating the person you are now. What do you think of the results? Are you proud of your life?

And I am talking on a general level, not specifics.

I know there are many things you have accomplished and that can make your feel proud of yourself. And yes, there are thousands of things you haven’t achieved yet but that shouldn´t make you feel less proud of who you are now. Continue reading

My truth

Reading an article about religions in the world nowadays, I arrived to the conclusion that we are reaching the point where we will have our own personal philosophy and in the end we will leave rituals and rules behind.

Sorry to talk about this, if you know me, you know I don´t like to talk about religion, sports, politics, etc. But this time I just want to rant a little about the problem of intolerance.

We can see in the media all the problems that the lack of respect for the beliefs of others are causing. Continue reading

Forgiving

I have heard lately many people talking about forgiving others. I have been questioned many times about how I could forgive betrayal and lies so easily.

The truth is, I forgive myself first.  I am conscious that I have allowed those people to hurt me in the first place. I have gave them the power to do so. I have released my power and then, the harm is done.

So I always begin by forgiving myself.

The rest is much easier. Continue reading

You are being limited

I was listening to the different complains of a group of people about the way governments around the world are limiting our freedom. How castrating and humiliating some laws could be for our well being.

One of the complainers was an acquaintance who lives in a very expensive part of the city and she was complaining about the abuse some immigrants have to face when they reach the borderline and they are treated like criminals and are returned back to their country.  She is the first to hire those people, pay them a miser salary and treat them almost like slaves. What you expect…

I must admit that sometimes my mind flies higher than it should and creates over amplified sceneries of events.

It is true that we are experiencing life depending on our ideas, beliefs, points of view, etc.  But sometimes our expectative is based on the wrong mental image and therefore, this leads us to pain and disappointment, or fear and stillness. Continue reading
