I thought I had finally left the bad habit of adding salt to my food without tasting it first. I have slowed down my eating speed quite a lot and keeping my hands away from the salt shaker as much as possible, but I have caught myself adding salt more often, to food that does not really need it.
Yes, for some strange reason (maybe my body needs a little more sodium lately) My mind keeps bringing thoughts of salty food and, that constant desire for salt is pushing my hands to grab the salt shaker more often, maybe this is just a justification, but that is a habit I need to work on immediately before it causes a bigger damage.
Same with other bad habits, and fear as well. Fear is a bad habit when you allow it to be the master of your thoughts too frequently.
How would you expect to get rid of a bad thought if you keep entertaining it all the time? Continue reading →
At first, mowing the lawn didn’t seem so complicated. I saw my neighbours do it all the time and they looked so unconcerned about the way they did it, I always thought there was no complication in the process.
But this time I was going to learn a very important lesson.
I was 7 years old and not very interested in learning about gardening and its technical hitches. But I was visiting a friend in his house and I must admit I was impressed by his garden. Everything looked so perfect and beautiful!
His father asked me if I could give him a hand by mowing the lawn with an old manual lawnmower. I didn’t see any problem with that, it looked very easy to do, so I began the task with the excitement of trying a new thing. Continue reading →
“Yes I am.” She answered with a vague look in her eyes.
“But you said you met him just two months ago” I asked her with surprise.
After a few seconds of consideration she swiftly said: “Yes, but please understand that I don´t want to be alone anymore.” Her voice was firm and I understood she didn´t want to continue this conversation Continue reading →
We are taught to trust our senses to recognise our reality. We believe in what we can “touch”, “Seeing is believing” and so forth.
It is logical to take as “real” those things that our five senses can perceive. Our senses were designed for that purpose, right?
Well as a child I loved to play those games in magazines and books where drawings could hide different shapes and only focusing your mind in certain areas of the illustration you could find more “hidden” shapes. Continue reading →
When I was a little child I dreamt with being a grown up and doing whatever I wanted without having to ask permission or receiving help from anyone. Being a grown up should be something marvellous!
I remember those times now and wish I could go back to being spoiled and ignoring many things that happen every day around me.
Years later while I was waiting for my daughter to stop crying and allow us to go back to sleep, while swinging her cradle, I remember wishing she could grow up fast and see her as a beautiful girl who would go to sleep quietly and fast! Continue reading →
When you set your expectations on someone or something, you are at risk to be disappointed. It is a part of life and it hurts very much, but believe me, it hurts even more when you are the one who is disappointing a loved one.
I know I have done that many times, not willingly of course, but I have disappointed people who had believed in me and, on the other side, I have been disappointed too.
I have heard so many times that you have to embrace change and difficulties when they come, that I thought I had totally understood the idea. And probably I had, but as usual when it comes to apply our knowledge in real life, things become difficult.
We are all excellent for theory but when practice time arrives, the story is quite different, same thing when giving advice to others, we already know what to say to them in any situation THEY have to face, but when we are in the same predicament, all those answers and solutions vanish from our head.
