Some days are difficult to forget. If you had a day full of wonderful times, that day becomes a memory of a lifetime. If you had a day full of problems and bitter moments, that day will too become a memory of a lifetime.
Happily, those days are very rare. Usually our days are a mix of good and bad incidents.
The only difference is that most people are used to focus on those events that make them feel bad. We keep them in a special compartment in our mind and it seems we feel a strange “pleasure” by bringing them back to memory frequently in reunions that end up being “adversity competitions” where the one who has suffered the most wins.
I know playing the victim help some people to bring more attention upon them, and yes, who does not enjoy the “15 minutes of fame” from time to time. Continue reading →
I am happy to say I have been privileged and blessed in many ways, throughout my life I have been able to meet and work with people who have been considered the best in their particular fields and I have learnt so much from them.
I was talking to a friend who is very concerned with ageing. She is not that old but she feels her body is not responding as before and now her mind is focused on her “lacks” instead of doing something about them. (Lack of mobility, lack of concentration, lack of sleep, and so on.)
I was just telling her about those people I have known in my life and who had been very successful, and their main characteristic had been “activity”. They keep moving all the time, they walk a lot, keep studying new subjects a lot, they are open to new ideas and subjects a lot, they exercise a lot and watch their diets a lot.
A friend of mine who is 87 years “young” has a spirit of a man of 25, he actually is much more active and enthusiast than most of the young people I know. Continue reading →
After a long period of hardships in your life. After all the hard test have been overpowered, the most difficult thing is to leave those bad feelings behind.
Getting over a bad experience does not mean that you have to pretend the harm never existed. It just means it is no longer directing your life.
I know there are things you will not be able to forget, but at least take the power you once gave them to guide the course of your life for a while and, retake it once more.
I once thought I was not good enough and, that I did not deserve to be happy and prosperous and those thoughts governed my life for a long time. After discovering that there was no external person nor influence to blame, I decided to take that power back and manage it myself to direct it to more fruitful endeavours. Continue reading →
Many times I have question myself, the Universe, God, etc., why some of my petitions, prayers, dreams never came true. I even have felt hurt and ignored because of this.
I know we all have gone through an experience like this but, sometimes we forget it and, despite seeing later that the results we would have received were totally different to what we expected in the first place, we allow that feeling of rejection, frustration, etc., to abide in our hearts once more.
I remember a long time ago, a friend wanted so bad to travel to a big city with his friends. His parents oppose to that trip and he got very frustrated and mad at them.
He had been planning that trip for months but in the end, his grades at school had been much lower than expected and his parents decided he had not “earned” that trip. Continue reading →
We always talk about being present, we are constantly remembered that we need to focus our attention on the “here and now” if we want to lead a happy life.
But have you noticed how difficult “being here” really is?
This modern life has too many distractors around us and our mind is getting used to pretend it can “multitask”, that means doing multiple task at one time. But that is not possible for humans. Yes, I know most women think they can do it because they usually have to keep their mind on different things at the same time, but human multitasking is very different to computer multitasking. We always complain about the bad things that happen to us in our everyday life.
Sometimes we feel the worst things take place at the worst moment so our mind begins to orbit around our problems, leaving the rest of our life out of perspective. Then the rest of the world disappears and our attention is focused on those “terrible situations”.
We all have been there and when we finally take a look around us, we finally see there are much bigger problems in the life of others that the ones we are considering as our doom. Continue reading →
I have heard so many times that you have to embrace change and difficulties when they come, that I thought I had totally understood the idea. And probably I had, but as usual when it comes to apply our knowledge in real life, things become difficult.
We are all excellent for theory but when practice time arrives, the story is quite different, same thing when giving advice to others, we already know what to say to them in any situation THEY have to face, but when we are in the same predicament, all those answers and solutions vanish from our head. “Yes, I have made a lot of mistakes, I have taken very bad decisions and I am still trying to figure out how to set things right in many aspects of my life, but I don’t think I have failed. I did everything I could in the way I thought it was right, I tried my best to do the things in the only way I knew and yes, I know, I have harmed people I love at times, I have even harmed people I don’t know directly but all I can say is that I didn’t do anything on purpose. I never meant to do anything wrong to anyone in anyway.” I told my friend while we walked in the park. Continue reading →
I was reading about a study from Harvard University where they describe the importance of being focused on the present moment for improving our happiness.
We are always encouraged to let our mind wander in order to improve our creativity. There is nothing most wonderful than day dreaming and let our thoughts flow. But according to this study, the more our mind wanders away from the present moment, the unhappier we become. Continue reading →
