Tolerate

The other day while taking a long walk in the park, I was pondering about why sometimes we feel uncomfortable with the way our life is going.

I remember thinking that as long as I was feeling fine, my life and everything around me were supposed to be alright and I should not move anything whatsoever to change it.

I am not saying, that you should feel uneasy with your life all the time, that is not the real reason to be here.  But once you notice that “nothing changes” that things are just the same, as usual, and you begin to feel that you are not “advancing” in your life path, then it is time to listen to that little voice in your head that is trying to tell you something very important.

Something that perhaps you are pretending to ignore. Continue reading

Fast!

In my humble opinion there is nothing more frustrating than waiting.

Yes, I confess: I am very impatient. I hate having to wait for a long time. I usually like things to be there, ready for me instead of having to kill time while I receive what I want.

And, of course, this has brought me many headaches in my life throughout the years.

Specially when things are going wrong, I would like to discover a magic spell to make things change course immediately.

But, as you already know, this is not possible and to understand why things should be that way, is something most times I am not very good at. Continue reading

Do you really want that?

She was still alive.

She had just finished her pulmonary emphysema treatment. She had barely come out alive of this whole situation, but at least, she was alive.

The last few months had been very difficult for her and her family. They were all exhausted and all they wanted was return to their daily lives as usual.

They wanted to put all that behind. Forget about it and pretend that it never happened with a smile on their faces.

Of course, the doctors forbid her to even look at a cigarette ever again!

And, in the beginning, she said she would do everything in her power to regain her health and her life once more.

But, in her heart, things were very different.  Continue reading

The end of a cycle?

After a long time of living a routine that has almost become a part of our nature, one of the hardest things is admitting that we need to take a new road.

We have got different options:

  • To continue as we have done so far, although in some cases, It might be impossible since the circumstances have changed.
  • Take a deep breath and take the first step into the unknown so we can explore new paths.
  • Do nothing whatsoever.

Do your part

I do not need to remind you of all the bad things happening every day in our planet. It is actually very difficult to turn your head to the other side to avoid the news.

There is a tendency in the media nowadays to highlight the bad news since they know that is what really sells. When they publish good news, people do not react the same way and they lose their profit.

The real problem is, that we accept that game, and get too inundated with those notes, and besides our personal everyday problems, we get even more stress with the tragedies in the world.

I know it is important to be informed of what is happening in the international and local arena. But in the process of finding a subject for the lunch time chat, we keep forgetting that we will have our part on this global stress wave. Continue reading

Building the new

In a time of fast changes in technology, politics, society, ideologies and so on and so forth, being static seems to be “out of fashion”.

New discoveries in science appear and our ideas and old prejudices must change as well. Quantum physics is really weird and although it seems it cannot affect your “reality” directly, some of its effects are beginning to be understood nowadays.  We are changing the way we see our universe and there will be radical changes in our mentalities and dogmas in science and religion.  Yes, you have read well, there are dogmas in science too, believe it or not.  But we´ll talk about it some other time. There are many stubborn “scientists” out there who prefer to look to the other side when a new idea appears, since it is much more comfortable to remain believing in the old concepts than work on understanding and testing the new ones. Your real power

If someone would tell you right now that you are more “in charge” of your happiness than you think, what would your answer be?

Of course, we all are now aware of our “responsibility and influence” on our own happiness and well-being.  We have read a lot lately about how important our thoughts and feelings are to influence our end results.

But most times we need a reminder of this, because as soon as the things become difficult, we tend to forget our own power and immediately go back to “desperation mode”.

The XIV Dalai Lama once said: “If there is no solution to the problem then do not waste time worrying about it. If there is a solution to the problem then do not waste time worrying about it”.

And I have been many times there, where I thought things were very rough and I felt powerless and scared for the “magnitude” of the problems I had right in front of me.  But after some time, with the help of others or even through my own merits, I finally realised that things were not as huge as they seemed. It´s about to get easier

I know, these have been very difficult times, lots of tests, lots of lessons yet to learn but, if you look back now, you can contemplate a long and very bumpy road behind you.

If they had told you, in the beginning, that the road ahead of you would be so ragged, probably you would have chosen a different path.  Nevertheless, you are here now, you transited that hilly highway and here you are, taller, stronger, wiser. Congratulations!

When I learnt to skate by myself, I did fall many times, bruised my knees, crashed against other skaters, Streetlights, walls and many other hard objects I found on my way to master it. It was a very painful learning period, but it was totally worth it.

Skating has been for me a wonderful way to feeling myself really free. Feeling the air caressing my face while I glided around the rink, has been one of the most wonderful experiences in my life. Continue reading

You are more than fine

you

Advice on how to be a good business partner, a better spouse, friend, lover, student, boss and so on. Are everywhere.

You can see in most magazines and newspapers, a section dedicated to those subjects. Everybody has something to tell you on how to be a better “version of yourself”.

All this information, as everything else in life, might be very useful and, of course, we can learn a lot when we try to apply it to our daily life but, on the other hand, we need to be extremely vigilant of what we accept and what we take with a pinch of salt.

We are all individuals, we are all different (fortunately). We can try to do things differently in order to learn new ways to do things, even faster and better.

But when it comes to your own nature, your own personality, your own being. Things are very different. Continue reading

This was not my plan

When I was a child, I had a very different idea of what my life would be.

I wanted to be an astronaut, an explorer, a fireman, a superhero, an engineer. Well from all these options, I only became the latter.

The truth is I never dreamt of travelling the world, meeting very interesting people from different backgrounds and being who I am today.

I am not judging here, whether it was good or bad to be who I am today; I just know it was the best option for me.

Of course I didn’t accomplish all the things I wanted, at least not yet, you never know what is coming next. But looking in retrospective, I have accomplished many things I never thought possible. Continue reading
