Genuineness

Sometime ago, I had the opportunity to meet in person a very well know scientist-writer.  He always wrote about very polemic subjects but he was convinced of his concepts and was considered an eminence in his time.

For many years he was able to endure the attacks and criticism of his fellow scientists who were more comfortable with the old theories.  He could most times provide good evidence of his own models.

But he started a family and the economic pressures began to emerge. So, he had to start searching for new work opportunities and his life took a 180° turn.

When he was not so “famous” anymore, and he had to abide under the rules of the scientific community (see how I didn´t say under the laws of science) He was politely asked to “rephrase” some of his arguments and personal views in his books, since they “were not in line with the general scientific view”. Building the new

In a time of fast changes in technology, politics, society, ideologies and so on and so forth, being static seems to be “out of fashion”.

New discoveries in science appear and our ideas and old prejudices must change as well. Quantum physics is really weird and although it seems it cannot affect your “reality” directly, some of its effects are beginning to be understood nowadays.  We are changing the way we see our universe and there will be radical changes in our mentalities and dogmas in science and religion.  Yes, you have read well, there are dogmas in science too, believe it or not.  But we´ll talk about it some other time. There are many stubborn “scientists” out there who prefer to look to the other side when a new idea appears, since it is much more comfortable to remain believing in the old concepts than work on understanding and testing the new ones. “I never thought this could happen to me”

For some reason, I always had a negative neuronal connection linked to that expression. And when I heard a person saying it, but referring to a positive event, my mind entered in shock.

My inner logic could not understand that it could be used to describe a positive situation.

I have a dim child memory of people using it constantly to describe tragic events in their life. I cannot remember someone in particular or the situations, but I believe it was then, when I made that neuronal link with a negative connotation.

When I heard those words used in an opposite context, my mind had to rethink the meaning of the phrase and then made an adjustment in my brain to place it in a new “storage position” so I could accept the real meaning. Continue reading

Watch your language

I just received a copy of a very interesting study made by three Universities in the United Kingdom on colour perception.

They found a tribe in Africa with a language limited to three words to describe colours.  One word for the dark colours, one for middle range colours and one for very light colours.

To make a long a story short, in one of these studies, they showed different illustrations with different shades of the same colour to members of that tribe and they immediately identified the two shades that had a slight difference. But, when they showed the same illustration to westerners, who did not have different words to define those shades of green, they could not find the difference or took a long time to notice it. They haven´t got different words to describe those colours, therefore those westerners couldn’t find the difference so easily.

But when the scientist showed an illustration with six green squares and one blue square, westerners immediately pointed at the blue square, but people from that tribe couldn’t find it. They have the same word to describe both colours. For them the concept was the same and as colours are concepts we create in our minds, they could not find the difference. Continue reading

The external

We constantly talk about our old negative ideas, beliefs and hidden concepts in our mind that keep us sunk in our depression and lack of success.

But we cannot forget that we are inhabitants of a physical universe and that there are external factors as well.

Yes, we create our reality with our feelings and thoughts. Yes, we are responsible for the things that we create and attract to our personal reality and yes, there are other people in this local reality creating and attracting their own things as well, so we are not alone and yes, we are attracting and creating those external factors as well.

Let´s imagine you are an enthusiast of motorcycles. Then you get one or more motorcycles and then attract other people who are passionate about them as well.  Then your “inner circle” could be formed by people who share your hobbies and passions. Continue reading

True Meaning

My Japanese friend was very upset and she asked me to listen to her (online) for a while about an incident she had with an old man the day before. She was very distressed.

Being a westerner, my mind flew too high and what at first I thought it was something more severe, luckily it happened to be, (and I am happy it was so) more of a generational conflict than a physical aggression.

He was a Japanese man who was born before Wold War II, he was amazed by the way young people nowadays are living an easier life with much more opportunities and comfort than he had in his time. Continue reading

The power of the vacuum

Few year ago in London I had the opportunity to witness a demonstration of the Casimir Effect experiment that proves the existence of energy in the “vacuum”.  Do not worry I will not get too technical here so if you would like to get more information on this, search “The Casimir effect” on the net. I am sure you will find this very interesting.

This morning I received new info on that subject and it inspired me to find more answers on different situations I am going through right now.

We are discovering nowadays that most concepts we had about that, what we call reality, are wrong. And we will need to re-think our own ideas and concepts once more. Continue reading

Relearning

I always thought I had mastered my favourite subject (mathematics) since I had graduated and received a title as an engineer. When I was at school, I always entertained the idea that once you finish your career you know everything you need to work on your profession and then you can proceed to the next step. Whatever a next step is.

I thought I had “made it” and I shouldn’t worry about “looking back” to review what I supposedly knew so well. But I was surprised when I tried to enrol in an advanced quantum mechanics class, they asked me to take an online test to see my “level”, since this class was only for “advanced students”. And they expected us to have a certain level in order to deal with the concepts without having to “explain the basics” to the no initiated.  Continue reading

Concepts

It is amazing when you compare the differences between several concepts that I thought were a little more “standardise” like “success”, “beauty”, “good”, “evil” and so on.

For some strange reason I always thought we all shared the same concepts on many subjects, like the notion of “good” for instance. It was years later when having to interact with people from different countries as a visitor and observer, that I had my first “cultural shock”.

So maybe the ideas are not that different, but our interpretations are. What my community considers a crime, a different culture considers it as something normal, even logical. Continue reading

Inner wisdom II

Inner wisdom comes not only in the form of theory or intellectual knowledge. It is a more profound concept.

We can say it is a part of our inner baggage, a set of tools that travel with us all our life and constantly updates with the help or our experiences and tests in life.

It means to be true to our inner being and apply those tools in our daily life. Continue reading
