Darkness

Watching him eating so fast was a disgusting view.  It seemed as if he thought the world was coming to an end and he should finish his meal in advance.

I was just in the middle of the first course, when he was finishing his last. I was surprised, and at the same time a little displeased since he was not really enjoying his food.  I remained silent as he was excusing himself from the table and rushed out of the restaurant without even waiting for my answer.

I was in “judging mode” so, I thought he should learn to take more time for him to enjoy his food besides, it is unhealthy, and in some cases even dangerous to eat too fast.

I finished my meal at my own pace, and my other friend and I left the place talking about more relevant subjects. Continue reading

There is a reason

The afternoon was beautiful, the blue sky showed just a few clouds in the distance and the river Cherwell remained calmed as usual with a few couples punting in the distance.

My friend professor H, is very well known for his discoveries in physics and specially for his theories in quantum mechanics. But that evening, his lesson had nothing to do with the behaviour of particles or other dimensions.

He was more quiet than usual, but today he looked more distant than other times. I didn’t want to interrupt his thoughts and I just limited to walk beside him in silence.

He suddenly stopped and said in a loud voice: “Everything is just about understanding” and continued his promenade. Continue reading

The hindrance

Most times we tend to take for granted the importance of hindrances in our paths.

Have you ever transited a long straight highway? I once had to drive for 9 hours from Saudi Arabia to Jordan on a long straight line of “nothingness”.

Most people would think this could be the safest way to travel, “no curves, no danger” right? Wrong.

It is exasperating to keep moving forward with no “twists and curves”. Continue reading

 The train

I remember that little train I received as a gift when I was little. It was beautiful and used one of those fat old batteries to feed the engine and a little light it had on the front.

It had these mechanisms attached in the front and in the back sides, it was like little buttons than when pressed changed the direction of the engine, so when the train found an obstacle on its way that pressed this button, the train changed direction and began to go backwards. Same when the train found the end of the track, the back button| was pressed by the obstacle and changed the direction forwards.

It might not sound very impressive when compared to today’s standards in toys technology, but considering that this was a long time ago, to me it was really marvellous then.

After a while, instead of waiting for the train to reach the end of the track and crash against it so it began to go forward, I began to “help it” by using my finger to make it change direction faster.

Then I expanded the track and added a bridge and other details to make the “ride” more fun. I loved it.

Sometimes I feel like that train.

I begin to go forward with no “obstacles” on the way and suddenly an unexpected situation appears and “shifts” my direction making me to go back, sometimes for quite a long time, until “something” stopped me and helped me to change my direction to continue my journey forwards.

Nowadays, after expanding my track with many new options, bridges, tunnels, new landscapes and sceneries. I am working on my inner mechanism in order to avoid going too far backwards. That way I can stop, observe, learn and continue my journey advancing continuously.

Of course that is not as simple as it sounds, I need to learn and plan significantly, since my subconscious mind plays lots of games with my conscious mind, making her believe that some obstacles are real, thus activating the “break system” unnecessarily. But now my brain is getting used to respond in a faster way so she can continue its way faster than before. Continue reading

Bad day

There are days when you would like to stay in bed the whole day without knowing from the external world. Those days when you would like to sleep all the time so you don’t have to face a bunch of problems, people and situations that make you feel overwhelmed and fed up of everything.

Many times we feel as if we just couldn’t go on, we feel we are carrying the whole world on our shoulders, and when things get more complicated, finding new answers and solutions is an almost impossible task, or at least so it seems to us. Continue reading

The punishment (Short story)

The day began as usual in that little community, everybody were beginning their daily chores and there was an atmosphere of calmness and boredom among the inhabitants.

Only one of the elders felt a little nervous, he didn’t know why, but something was wrong. Nobody paid any attention to his comments, after all, he was just too old.

Suddenly the earth began to vibrate, all around this little village was shaking and after a few seconds everything turned black, like a sudden total Sun eclipse, but this was faster and totally unexpected. Continue reading

The dark night

When people want to refer to an ugly period of their lives or a negative aspect of their personality, they usually call it “the dark night of my heart or of my soul”.

We tend to use dark and night together as negative words to define a horrible period or event, contrary to the words “brilliant” and “Light”. But after all, the night is not that bad.

The night is the period of time when we usually rest and heal our body. Recent studies show that while we sleep, our brain cleans and heals itself and despite of that, it keeps making decisions and is as active as in our awake hours. Continue reading

Quantum possibility

You are trying to find an exit, but darkness is all you get. You are doing the best you can with what you have and still, things don’t change and the pressure is every day higher.

You expect to see the light at the end of the tunnel, but at this moment you are afraid that could be the light of the train that is coming to run you over.

And the worst part is that the people around you, the ones who are supposed to cheer you up and support you, are the first ones to look down at you. Continue reading

The darkside.

“The weak can never forgive, forgiveness is the attribute of the strong.”-Mahatma Gandhi

We all have a duality in ourselves.

We are not all white or all black, we actually need this duality to be able to find our balance and move forward.

In my last article I was talking about the importance of self-forgiveness. I have talked many times about the fact that everything returns to us.  Assassins, kidnappers, terrorists and so on, they all receive one way or the other what they deserve, even if we don’t see it. We never know what happens inside of another person’s soul.

Remember there are always two parts, the offender and the victim. Continue reading
