We are living very hectic times, everything must be quick and short. We like to see a movie instead of reading the book, we strive to find shortcuts, instead of taking the time to learn and practice to do things properly. We prefer to pay to get our clothes washed and ironed instead of taking the time to do it ourselves.
We are living our lives on the fast lane.
As a civilization, we are getting lazy on many things.
But on the other hand, we are getting obsessed with exercising. We are beginning to face serious health problems due to an excess of exercise training in ways our body was not design to do. But, fashion is fashion and you need to follow it, in order to feel you are “fitting in”, right?
When I was a child, I had a very different idea of what my life would be.
I wanted to be an astronaut, an explorer, a fireman, a superhero, an engineer. Well from all these options, I only became the latter.
The truth is I never dreamt of travelling the world, meeting very interesting people from different backgrounds and being who I am today.
I am not judging here, whether it was good or bad to be who I am today; I just know it was the best option for me.
Of course I didn’t accomplish all the things I wanted, at least not yet, you never know what is coming next. But looking in retrospective, I have accomplished many things I never thought possible. Continue reading →
When I was a child I found happy faces everywhere I looked. Now it is getting more difficult to find them around. Probably as a child I did not put much attention to other people’s mood, the people I looked at was happier or I was not trained to see a sad or depressed face yet.
“Those were other times” some would answer, “People then had fewer worries, these times are more difficult” is a common response nowadays.
I am not sure how to classify it, but yes, finding happy faces is not as easy for me lately. Should I move to a different country? Well, not exactly, after travelling a lot I have found all kind of people everywhere, but thanks to the internet now you can talk to people on the other side of the planet in real time and realise that they are not having it easier there either. When I have these dialogues with my inner self, I tend to “justify” many of the mistakes my subconscious mind points out to me. But as I cannot fool myself so easily, very often I end up “burnt and crashed” but a little bit wiser and stronger.
Sometimes I kept dreaming on things that seemed so “impossible” or too “far away” from me to reach them but that “impossibility” or “distance” made my mind doubt I could ever reach them. I am sure you have been there as well. We all have.
So when I begin to feel that way now what I usually do is rewind my memory tape and push play again so I can see how things “seemed” in the past and how now I am enjoying what in those times looked so far away from my reach and/or impossible to obtain at that time.
There is nothing more frustrating than entertaining the feeling of impossibility to reach a dream. Continue reading →
Escaping is considered a part of our self-defence natural system. It is usually called the fight-or-flight response.
According to this theory the sympathetic nervous system reacts to danger with a hormonal secretion of different hormones, amines and neurotransmitters (Norepinephrine, epinephrine, estrogen, testosterone, cortisol and others). Thus priming the subject for fighting or fleeing.
In these modern times, usually we don´t need the fighting part of the equation, (with the exception of big cities and problematic zones of course). So the fleeing part is much more active in some people. Continue reading →
Last night I had a very bizarre dream. It was one of those dreams you try to escape from during the night but even if you keep waking up your mind sends you back as soon as you go back to sleep.
In the dream I was at home, but when I wanted to enter into my bedroom, I found the door closed. When I opened it I stepped into a different room, somewhere else, in this room there were different people I have never seen before. Most of them looked very worried, like searching for the way out.
Some languages I was able to understand, other I have never heard before, but all of them were desperate trying to find the way out. Continue reading →
Most people of a certain age I know like to see their life backwards. That is, they like to see all the things they have accomplished during their lives. How things were tough once and they were able to overcome the obstacles and fight to get what they wanted. But 95% of them when I ask them if they would go through all of that from square one, they answer: NO!
So most of them have lived a life full of difficulties and have learnt to overcome them and they are now in a privileged place because they passed their tests. Nevertheless they don’t like the idea of starting all over again.
They feel they have reached the goal and now they can just rest and live looking at the past for the rest of their lives. Continue reading →
They say “Everything has a solution but death” and often they reply: “And many times death is the solution”.
I know there are extreme cases like certain illnesses when much suffering is involved, and we cannot see other way out but death itself, when medicine in general cannot offer help any more. Continue reading →
In a dream, I was walking really fast as if I was in a hurry to get somewhere, suddenly I saw a man whose feet got entangled in a metal wire and almost fell down but someway managed to escape, he angrily kicked the wire in my direction and the wired trapped my feet, but I did fell down, yes I could be that clumsy sometimes when I am awake too.
I stayed on the floor looking at the wire still wrapped around my feet and instead of getting angry and throwing it away to see another person being a new victim of the avenger wire, I thought it could be very useful if I keep it. Then I woke up. Continue reading →
