Building the new

In a time of fast changes in technology, politics, society, ideologies and so on and so forth, being static seems to be “out of fashion”.

New discoveries in science appear and our ideas and old prejudices must change as well. Quantum physics is really weird and although it seems it cannot affect your “reality” directly, some of its effects are beginning to be understood nowadays.  We are changing the way we see our universe and there will be radical changes in our mentalities and dogmas in science and religion.  Yes, you have read well, there are dogmas in science too, believe it or not.  But we´ll talk about it some other time. There are many stubborn “scientists” out there who prefer to look to the other side when a new idea appears, since it is much more comfortable to remain believing in the old concepts than work on understanding and testing the new ones. You have survived

When I was a child I found happy faces everywhere I looked.  Now it is getting more difficult to find them around.  Probably as a child I did not put much attention to other people’s mood, the people I looked at was happier or I was not trained to see a sad or depressed face yet.

“Those were other times” some would answer, “People then had fewer worries, these times are more difficult” is a common response nowadays.

I am not sure how to classify it, but yes, finding happy faces is not as easy for me lately.  Should I move to a different country? Well, not exactly, after travelling a lot I have found all kind of people everywhere, but thanks to the internet now you can talk to people on the other side of the planet in real time and realise that they are not having it easier there either. Opposites

Why do bad things have to exist? If God is so “good” as they say, then why he allows the bad and the ugly to exist?

These are common questions we all hear all the time.

And have you ever imagined a world without opposites?

It could not exist at all actually.

We need a point of comparison to be able to “measure” things. How would you know if something is cold if there was not hot? Silly example I know I am just trying to make my point here. Continue reading

The best I ever had

Why is it that when somebody dies he or she becomes the best person on the planet?

Why after a love is gone, we realise after a while, that he/she was the “love of our life”?

Why do we have to face loss, in order to find the good aspects of people, places and things?

And you can apply that to practically everything with the exception of abusive people and bad situations. But even in those cases I have seen people who, when an abusive person who made their life a real hell, dies. They begin to find the “good” in them.  Sometimes an excess of dependency? An addiction to old beliefs? Whatever… Continue reading

Do not wait anymore…

The night was cold and waiting for a bus to arrive was getting on my nerves.  Sometimes waiting for public transport is a real challenge in certain countries where there are no fixed timetables or, they have them but do not respect them.

The weather was getting colder and my patience was vanishing so, despite the time (1:30 A.M.) and being not that far from my destiny I decided I would walk a few minutes and see if the bus would catch up with me a little later.

After all, walking would help me to get warm and keep my mind from complaining about the public transport in this city.

As I began walking I could hear the sound of my footsteps on the pavement. It was the only sound I could hear, so it was nice to listen to the rhythm of my saunter!

I walk a lot, that is one of my favourite pleasures in life, but last night it was cold and I felt a little tired so that is why I had decided to wait for the bus.  But probably the bus driver was cold as well and decided to take a cup of hot tea instead of driving for a change. So I decided to take a walk for a while and enjoy it!

Every now and then I stopped and looked back to see if the bus was finally coming but to no avail. So I kept walking and walking until I reached my destination and the bus never arrived. But I was so happy it didn´t because I really enjoyed the walk.

I was wondering how many times I would have achieved more in my life if instead of waiting for my good to come, I had taken the initiative to go and find it first?  How many blessings did I miss for waiting for them statically? How many opportunities were waiting for me at my destiny, but never discovered them for waiting for them to come and pick me up?

Not that far away…

When I have these dialogues with my inner self, I tend to “justify” many of the mistakes my subconscious mind points out to me. But as I cannot fool myself so easily, very often I end up “burnt and crashed” but a little bit wiser and stronger.

Sometimes I kept dreaming on things that seemed so “impossible” or too “far away” from me to reach them but that “impossibility” or “distance” made my mind doubt I could ever reach them. I am sure you have been there as well. We all have.

So when I begin to feel that way now what I usually do is rewind my memory tape and push play again so I can see how things “seemed” in the past and how now I am enjoying what in those times looked so far away from my reach and/or impossible to obtain at that time.

There is nothing more frustrating than entertaining the feeling of impossibility to reach a dream. Continue reading

People are nowadays living as fast as they can. It seems like a speed contest to see who the first to reach the highest level of stress is, in the shortest time possible.

They tell us to be passionate about our work, our activities and relationships, passionate about living our life to the fullest. That is brilliant, but I am seeing people who in order to feel they are passionate about their lives are entering a self-centred world of their own.

We do not need to be so radical about our actions.  We can be passionate and at the same time share that passion with others. Continue reading

Your deeds

I used to think that trophies and medals, awards and acknowledgements were a sign of success. And maybe in most cases this is so, but I was shocked to learn how easy is nowadays to buy or get one when you have enough cash in your wallet or you know the “right” people.

I do not usually accept those things because I feel I haven´t really earn them yet. I know so many people with years of experience, hard work, perseverance and especially great results to show and, most times, they are ignored. Continue reading

Here

We always talk about being present, we are constantly remembered that we need to focus our attention on the “here and now” if we want to lead a happy life.

But have you noticed how difficult “being here” really is?

This modern life has too many distractors around us and our mind is getting used to pretend it can “multitask”, that means doing multiple task at one time. But that is not possible for humans.  Yes, I know most women think they can do it because they usually have to keep their mind on different things at the same time, but human multitasking is very different to computer multitasking. Solitude

“So you are marrying that guy?” I asked her.

“Yes I am.” She answered with a vague look in her eyes.

“But you said you met him just two months ago” I asked her with surprise.

After a few seconds of consideration she swiftly said: “Yes, but please understand that I don´t want to be alone anymore.” Her voice was firm and I understood she didn´t want to continue this conversation Continue reading
