In the last few years, I have seen among friends and colleagues a tendency (yes, me included of course), to feel that if you are not busy all the time, you are wasting your time.
This phenomenon is more common in big cities. We are getting used to be stressed all the time. And if you find yourself, in a certain moment, relaxed and calmed, then a feeling of guilt takes over your heart.
Nowadays, it seems unforgivable to be relaxed and happy, it is generally taken as an act of “laziness”, “idleness” or a” waste of your life”.
He usually looked so calmed and relaxed, I wondered sometimes if he ever got angry or nervous about something.
One day I heard he was going through a severe legal problem involving a money issue with his relatives. When I went to visit him he looked as usual, calmed and relaxed, despite the problems he was facing going to courts and having to deal with attorneys all the time.
At first I didn’t dare to ask him how he was feeling, since his attitude was clear enough as to see he was doing quite well. Continue reading →
Last time I was there I was feeling sad and tired. The field looked at that time dry and colourless. The weather was fine but I felt it cold and asphyxiating. I had lost an aunt who had been as my second mother all my life and from that moment on, life would be very different to what I thought it would be my reality for ever.
A photograph captured that moment. I never dared to see that photo again so it remain for many years hidden in a box.
The image of that field never changed. In my memories it was dry, cold and gloomy. I had never returned to visit that place in all these years. Continue reading →
Many people refer to their life experiences as “lessons from the University of Life”. Meaning that life itself is an abundant source of knowledge, experiences and very valuable lessons. Probably the best lessons in life are absolutely free. Or maybe not so “free” because the price we have to pay to receive them and learn from them is having to experience them in our life and that sometimes, is a very high price to pay.
Today I am feeling especially grateful for all my life lessons, I am fortunate to say I have experienced some very difficult ones from the best teachers in the universe: my “problems” and “hard times” have been excellent teachers and I am so grateful for them. Besides I have and still am learning from other people who have been kind enough to share their experiences with me and others who I have been able to observe from the distance as well. One of the most common questions I hear all the time and, actually have asked myself many times as well is: When do changes begin to appear?
You listen constantly that you need to control your thoughts in order to change the way you look at things, to stop listening and reading tragic news (that is: everything you see on news channels and newspapers), and to avoid negative people and conversations, to keep your faith alive and keeping your mind positive.
I was watching a video of my daughter dancing, in my opinion, (and I must say that I am not the typical father who sees everything his children do as marvellous and perfect), she did a very good job, but for her, she danced terribly, I tried to see the terrible parts in it, to comment with her what should be improved, but it was not as bad as she saw herself.
That reminded me when I was her age I used to see the videos of my tournaments and I was extremely critic of myself. My teachers were happy with my improvements, but to my eyes I was really lousy and clumsy in my movements. Maybe it was the little critic we all have inside? Continue reading →
I grew up hearing “if you want things well done, do them yourself”. Usually when you do team work it is very difficult to get the results you would have expected, if you had done the whole work alone.
We all have different gifts, abilities, knowledge, experiences, enthusiasm and interests, so to gather a team where every person will deliver their best to achieve certain result is a very difficult task. Continue reading →
