I am happy to say I have been privileged and blessed in many ways, throughout my life I have been able to meet and work with people who have been considered the best in their particular fields and I have learnt so much from them.
I was talking to a friend who is very concerned with ageing. She is not that old but she feels her body is not responding as before and now her mind is focused on her “lacks” instead of doing something about them. (Lack of mobility, lack of concentration, lack of sleep, and so on.)
I was just telling her about those people I have known in my life and who had been very successful, and their main characteristic had been “activity”. They keep moving all the time, they walk a lot, keep studying new subjects a lot, they are open to new ideas and subjects a lot, they exercise a lot and watch their diets a lot.
A friend of mine who is 87 years “young” has a spirit of a man of 25, he actually is much more active and enthusiast than most of the young people I know. Continue reading →
I must admit that being focused on this present moment is not as easy as I thought.
My mind is wandering more than ever and trying to keep it in this local reality is costing me an extra effort today.
Too many things are trying to keep me from “being here” and that is so interesting to observe, because I am trying to ask myself why, something apparently so simple, is so complicated today.
Probably paying so much attention to my thoughts today is making the task more difficult or, struggling to keep my mind relaxed is what is causing the opposite effect. But nevertheless it is so fascinating to observe this process from the inside. Continue reading →
They say we learnt to draw attention to ourselves when we were babies by crying, the louder we cried, the faster we received the attention.
This behaviour continues until our adulthood and as it still works for us sometimes, so we tend to sharpen our skills and become drama masters very soon.
Some people master the art of causing pity to others so they can get what they want. Some learn how to blame others so they can be seen as victims of external factors/people and, I must admit some of them are real good at it. Continue reading →
If you look around you right now, what do you see? Or better said, do you like what you see? Are you in the place where you wanted to be a year ago? Are the circumstances as you wished them to be back then?
If you answered yes to all those questions, congratulations, you have reached the goal. But if you answered no to any or all of them, then do not worry. You are a winner anyway because, believe it or not, you are where you are meant to be right now.
Probably your goals and dreams were different and you think you are not supposed to be where you are today. But that is not so. Continue reading →
In a time when technology is winning the race and your mobile phone has become an extension of your being. It is every day more difficult to be present in our “here and now.”
I was walking on the street enjoying the Sun when suddenly I saw a friend coming towards me, I was preparing to greeting him cheerfully and, when he was two steps from me I greeted him by his name, but as he had his mobile phone on his hand he just passed in front of me without answering my greeting. With these “Dialogs with my inner self” I always try to remind myself of those things I feel I am doing or not doing right, or where I need to clarify something. So if you have read some of these “notes to myself” you can see I still need to clarify a LOT in my head.
I have seen lately that I am doing too many things every day and, a sense of urgency to finish everything I start, is beginning to put some pressure on my shoulders that I don’t really need now. Continue reading →
A recurrent question I am asked is if I have finally reached my goal. If I have everything I wish for and if I am happy with the life I am living now.
The answer is no to all those and similar questions.
Fortunately I haven’t reach every goal I have set. In fact, I can say that every day I create a new goal to reach, a new mark to overcome, a new level to reach. I believe that the moment when you stop setting goals and dreaming to reach higher levels, you are already dead. Continue reading →
After all the things we have been discussing about the importance of change in our evolution and its role in the process of life, there is nothing more frustrating and disheartening that listen to someone saying: “this is the way I am and I cannot change it”.
I have heard those words too many times, especially from elderly people who in some way or another have adopted certain patterns in their lives and they believe they cannot change them anymore, sometimes they don’t care if those patterns are making their life better or worse, and the main problem is that they are accepting their status without trying to make a positive change in their behaviour and beliefs.
