Labels (More notes to self)

Have you ever asked yourself why things are “showing up” in your life the way they are right now?

We are used to “attach labels” to everything around us, people, circumstances and all kind of events.

We like to use “positive” or “negative”, “good” or “bad” and so on and so forth.

But looking backwards, how many times have you see a “bad” event turn out to be wonderful in the end? How many times have you seen apparently “good” events turn your life into a living “hell”?

What about that “decent” and “wonderful” person who caused you more sorrow and pain than those you considered your worst enemies?

You see? Let’s accept once and for all, that we never see the whole scene, and that make us misplace our labels most times.

So, it could be a god option to stop that “labelling business” for a while and begin anticipating more miracles and be ready to be surprised. Continue reading

Your trophy room

I used to enjoy observing in silence all the treasures a friend had in his studio.  The walls were covered by photos, trophies, awards and things of that kind.

Throughout his life he had met and befriended many celebrities from different parts of the world and some of them had been key elements in human history.

One day, as I discovered more hidden “treasures” as autographed books, honours and acknowledgements. My friend arrived and sat at his desk.  He amusingly observed as I enjoyed myself watching his amazing collection of memories.

To him these were witnesses of his own story. His achievements, failures, good and bad times, but always a memory of the lesson learnt was present in each object therein. Continue reading

Chaos

“My life is a chaos!” said that lady with a frustrated expression in her face.

“I cannot stand it anymore, either this situation changes or I will not make it till next month”, she added with a tortured tone of voice.

I was not being nosey on purpose. I happened to be standing behind two middle aged ladies while we all waited for the traffic lights to change colour so we could cross to the other side of a big avenue.

The lady who was standing beside the first one just looked at her companion, probably as overwhelmed as her and limited her answers to nodding her head from time to time.

“Why is God so mean to me?” The first lady asked in a very loud voice. Some people around her stared at her at that moment, and in some way I felt that was her intention in the first place. But well, that is what I thought, so do not take my word for it.

Finally, the other lady told her that she should hang on and pray a lot so her situation could change soon.

The traffic light showed the “walk” sign. We all crossed the street.

I remember when I was afraid of darkness, afraid of moving on, afraid of beginning a new day, a new job, the first day of school and so on and so forth.

All those events meant just one thing: Change was about to happen.

Treat them well

To my mom.

She was a very little and frail old lady.

They were four huge men used to deal with difficult people who usually received them violently, but after all, that was their job, they deliver legal notifications and as they usually were bearers of bad news, people always treat them bad.

They were apparently habituated to this and their attitude was very aggressive. I saw the scene from a distance and, knowing how they behave sometimes, I was getting ready to go and be ready to protect that old lady from any hostility.

They knocked at her door as if they were trying to smash it to pieces.  The old lady opened the door and look at them with a smile, the expression of those four man was hard and cold, they were doing their job, so they didn’t need to be polite. Continue reading

The good, the bad and the lesson…

From my book Answers II

When I have experienced something difficult or “bad” in my life, usually I took it off my mind for a while and just after the pain had gone I brought it back to my attention.

I had this tendency to look away from the hard or bad lessons in my life, since I considered that if I took all “bad” things in my life from my attention they would not affect me anymore, they would vanish and gone for ever.

But nowadays I take a different approach to those “bad and ugly” events in my life.  I have learnt to appreciate them and put them in a special place in my memories, because if I hadn’t experience them I wouldn’t be here now, I wouldn’t be who I am and I wouldn’t be able to share the lessons and blessings they have brought to my life.

I am not saying I am now a masochist who enjoys suffering and having rough experiences. Not at all. What I am saying is that the tough things I am experiencing now are no longer sending me to the floor and keeping me there all the time Continue reading

Just a second

It does not matter if your life has been the same for years and years.

It does not matter if they tell you that your life is secured.  There is no such thing. Nothing in this universe is static, secured or fixed.  Even rocks have millions of atoms inside them moving all the time.

You could be worried right now about a problem that seems unsurmountable, no open doors on sight and no plausible solutions at hand.

And nevertheless your life could completely change in the next second. Continue reading

Leaving behind…

After a long period of hardships in your life. After all the hard test have been overpowered, the most difficult thing is to leave those bad feelings behind.

Getting over a bad experience does not mean that you have to pretend the harm never existed.  It just means it is no longer directing your life.

I know there are things you will not be able to forget, but at least take the power you once gave them to guide the course of your life for a while and, retake it once more.

I once thought I was not good enough and, that I did not deserve to be happy and prosperous and those thoughts governed my life for a long time.  After discovering that there was no external person nor influence to blame, I decided to take that power back and manage it myself to direct it to more fruitful endeavours. Do not wait anymore…

The night was cold and waiting for a bus to arrive was getting on my nerves.  Sometimes waiting for public transport is a real challenge in certain countries where there are no fixed timetables or, they have them but do not respect them.

The weather was getting colder and my patience was vanishing so, despite the time (1:30 A.M.) and being not that far from my destiny I decided I would walk a few minutes and see if the bus would catch up with me a little later.

After all, walking would help me to get warm and keep my mind from complaining about the public transport in this city.

As I began walking I could hear the sound of my footsteps on the pavement. It was the only sound I could hear, so it was nice to listen to the rhythm of my saunter!

I walk a lot, that is one of my favourite pleasures in life, but last night it was cold and I felt a little tired so that is why I had decided to wait for the bus.  But probably the bus driver was cold as well and decided to take a cup of hot tea instead of driving for a change. So I decided to take a walk for a while and enjoy it!

Every now and then I stopped and looked back to see if the bus was finally coming but to no avail. So I kept walking and walking until I reached my destination and the bus never arrived. But I was so happy it didn´t because I really enjoyed the walk.

I was wondering how many times I would have achieved more in my life if instead of waiting for my good to come, I had taken the initiative to go and find it first?  How many blessings did I miss for waiting for them statically? How many opportunities were waiting for me at my destiny, but never discovered them for waiting for them to come and pick me up?

The equation

One thing I liked of mathematics when I was a little child, was that they were very precise.  2+2=4. That’s it. Straight to the point!

But then when math becomes more complicated things might change.

Do not worry I will not talk about math today, I am just sharing with you about an epiphany I had the other night, so do not expect a Math treaty here, promise! Continue reading

Do it for you

The more you advance in life, the more you realise that your reality has more to do with yourself than with external elements.

We are taught to avoid selfish attitudes and to pay attention on the opinion of the rest of the world, before considering our own.

You try sometimes to be good to other people, specially your loved ones, but time teaches you that you cannot make them love you, as you love them, you cannot expect them to be as good and loyal to you, as you are to them. You cannot force them to see life as you do, because they have their own view of the world, they have their own needs and they experience a different life with different perspectives and ideas, even if they spend all the time near you.
