Sometimes we wish other people would know what we know, and they could do what we do and be as good as we are at doing some things.
We get frustrated when our children or those people close to us cannot see the world the same way we do. We think that if only they could see things from our own perspective, things would be so much easier for them.
It is so difficult sometimes trying to explain some situations when we see them from the outside. But for the people “inside” things look complex and overwhelming. And of course, we cannot understand why they cannot see things that are so “obvious” to us.
But in these cases, we are guilty as well, we rarely stop to think than the others have a very different learning path then our own. They do need to go through the difficulties and “problems” they are facing now in order to grow and become wiser. In fact, you are doing the same thing right now, that is why we are all here. I was talking to an older friend, about his life and the experience he has gained through the years.
As a child, I had the idea that life gives us experience through different events and that every old person was wise and experienced in all areas of life.
I always thought that someone who had been on this planet for many decades had been able to gather all the knowledge in the world, but that idea began to fade as I grew up and had to work with many old people.
My friend who has been on this Earth for a little more of 8 decades, was amazed with my concepts and told me that experience and strength were not dependent of the age but on endurance. Continue reading →
I was standing in the middle of the gym with all my classmates staring at me amusingly watching my intents to defend myself against my opponent.
I was the smallest bloke in the class, in age and size, but at that time I was not very interested in their opinion about me.
I loved martial arts and despite of my efforts, the combat ended up really bad for me.
But in that particular moment, for some reason that was irrelevant to me and after that humiliating exercise, my teacher made a long list of all the appalling mistakes I made that time. Actually I made all the known and unknown faults listed in the manual. But I was so focused on my passion for training that it didn’t sound intimidating or discouraging to me. Continue reading →
Why do bad things have to exist? If God is so “good” as they say, then why he allows the bad and the ugly to exist?
These are common questions we all hear all the time.
And have you ever imagined a world without opposites?
It could not exist at all actually.
We need a point of comparison to be able to “measure” things. How would you know if something is cold if there was not hot? Silly example I know I am just trying to make my point here. Continue reading →
She was a sweet and lovely girl. She grew up in a traditional family and her childhood was a happy one.
As she grew up people and events turn her down and she became resentful and “tougher”. She began talking like her male friends and changed her stylish wardrobe for a more masculine looking. Even her movements and vocabulary became more aggressive and rough.
Finally one day I dared to ask her why she decided to make those changes in her personality, since she was such a nice young lady and now she was rougher than some gang members I know.
She told me she had to play a different role. She was alone with her two children in a world made for men by men and where women had no safe place to be. So she decided she wouldn´t let anybody walk upon her, she would be the one stepping on other people´s heads. Continue reading →
I was shocked to see how far into the year we are now. Where have all those days, weeks and hours gone? Life is happening too fast.
Maybe time is accelerating as some people are saying, maybe my daily routine is getting too….mmh…. routinely?
It was a Saturday two weeks ago, when I attended a very interesting conference at a University, I was still trying to let the concepts learnt there sink into my head, when suddenly I saw the calendar and it was Saturday once more! So soon? Where did all the rest of the week go?
Then I decided to make time go slower, yes, if time is a perception of the mind as some theories affirm, then I had to try and make it flow slowly. Continue reading →
An urgent message might come in different shapes and forms. Probably sometimes they need to arrive under the disguise of a “strong” emotion in order to force us to give it the required attention and response.
So we can call that a “good fear”. Not because I am saying that fear is good. It is like Karma, it isn’t good or bad, it just is.
But as I have mentioned before, fear has its purpose and reason to exist. So although we are in a quest to “vanish” fear in our modern society. We need to change our goal here. We CANNOT vanish fear from our hearts, it comes with our inner programming and it helps us to keep us safe from danger. Continue reading →
I have heard many times of people expressing their desire to do something radical to inspire others, to become a role model to follow. Usually those people try to follow a life that does not correspond to our modern life style anymore.
You don’t need to go and live in a cave in a remote mountain in order to reach enlightenment. You don’t need to deprive yourself of all earthly possessions and become a saint to be a living example to others. (Unless that kind of life is your calling in life and fills your soul with joy of course, but as usual it is a personal decision.) Continue reading →
I was enjoying the view from the top of a mountain near the Everest. I was sweating and panting despite the cold weather, but the effort to reach that peak was just too much for a city person like me.
It was a rough walk and although I have always enjoyed walking for very long periods of time, climbing this mountain was not an easy task. It took us a few hours and going through difficult parts and some tough experiences too. But we were finally at the top and enjoying a breath-taking view of the Chomologma “the mother of all mountains” Tibetan name for what we call Mount Everest. Continue reading →
