Procrastinating your well-being

“And when I have a new house, then I will be happy” this woman said to her companion in a loud voice as if she wanted the whole world to find out.

“Then I shall know that everything I have done was worth it, all the pain, all the hard work, my suffering.”  The lady who was sitting beside her looked at her in silence.

“Then I’ll be able to smile again and know everything will be alright. “she concluded in a triumphant tone.

The lady who was travelling with her asked her after a few seconds: “how long have you waited for that to happen?”

“Thirty years” the first lady answered. Continue reading

The pain in change

Have you noticed that when facing new circumstances, new situations like a new job, moving to a new house, a new relationship, etc. We react in many different ways?

Fear is the first feeling to jump into our heart. And sometimes that fear is the main reason because we reject change so much.

And it is understandable since change could be a very traumatic experience at first.

I remember when I was a child to be afraid of jumping into a swimming pool because my memory of the first contact with water at a different temperature was not very enjoyable.  It took me a long time to slowly crawl into the pool and it was not a very pleasant event.

Of course once this “traumatic” experience was passed it was almost impossible to take me out of the pool, but to “convince” me to dive into it first thing in the morning was a very difficult task. Continue reading

The best I can do

I still have problems defining when I have to stop trying to do things. On one side my mind tells me to “make things happen” and the other side says “do not force things and go with the flow”.  And that is like trying to drive with one foot on the accelerator and the other on the brake at the same time.

I know, sometimes life asks you to go beyond your normal efforts in order to achieve more meaningful things and sometimes you need to allow things to freely flow because with your pressure you are only slowing things down.

But how do you know when acting one way and when acting the other? Continue reading

Do not feel bad

We all need to accept the fact that each one of us is responsible for our own results. Good or bad. And that we should not give any one else that power either.

I was talking to a friend of mine who decided to leave her country to live with indigenous communities in the jungle. She goes to different zones in south america to carry food, medicine and teach people in remote towns to read and write. Among other things.

She is very happy doing what she loves but, lately she has been going through a series of bad moments because her mother died recently and she now feels that she was very selfish due to her passion for travel and leaving her mother and family behind. Continue reading

Your Light

There are days when you just cannot find the Light in your life and everything looks so dark and sinister.

With all the bad news inundating the Internet and the public media, those tragic stories from family and friends who are always so eager to share them with us, even before asking how we are doing.  The strangers in the street who love to tell you their lives and recent tragedies to see if they can find a friendly ear, that allows them to discharge their bad energy accumulated in their soul for so long. All that added to your own personal emotional baggage!

There are days, when you have to decide creating your own Light in the middle of a lot of induced darkness. Continue reading

Happy

I was feeling happy that morning.  I was actually enjoying that feeling of “Nothing is wrong in the world” when suddenly the left hemisphere of my brain began asking the right hemisphere what was he so happy about?

Maybe this unusual state of happiness was too suspicious for that side of the brain that is always analysing and questioning everything all the time.

So, of course he managed to find more than one “reason” to stop that “excess of happiness” and dedicate time to processing more “useful” and worrisome information.

So my mind began making a list of all those things in my past that were unfinished, unclear and unfair to my eyes so I could go back to the regular uneasiness pattern, more natural and popular these days in this world. Continue reading

Are you proud?

After all these years of living your life in your own way, after acquiring habits, ideas, skills and knowledge and creating the person you are now. What do you think of the results? Are you proud of your life?

And I am talking on a general level, not specifics.

I know there are many things you have accomplished and that can make your feel proud of yourself. And yes, there are thousands of things you haven’t achieved yet but that shouldn´t make you feel less proud of who you are now. Continue reading

Is that you?

She was a sweet and lovely girl.  She grew up in a traditional family and her childhood was a happy one.

As she grew up people and events turn her down and she became resentful and “tougher”. She began talking like her male friends and changed her stylish wardrobe for a more masculine looking. Even her movements and vocabulary became more aggressive and rough.

Finally one day I dared to ask her why she decided to make those changes in her personality, since she was such a nice young lady and now she was rougher than some gang members I know.

She told me she had to play a different role. She was alone with her two children in a world made for men by men and where women had no safe place to be. So she decided she wouldn´t let anybody walk upon her, she would be the one stepping on other people´s heads. Continue reading

Here

We always talk about being present, we are constantly remembered that we need to focus our attention on the “here and now” if we want to lead a happy life.

But have you noticed how difficult “being here” really is?

This modern life has too many distractors around us and our mind is getting used to pretend it can “multitask”, that means doing multiple task at one time. But that is not possible for humans.  Yes, I know most women think they can do it because they usually have to keep their mind on different things at the same time, but human multitasking is very different to computer multitasking. Reappearance

I was so happy and surprised to see him. He had changed so much after all these years. He looks now in a better shape, healthier and much happier.

The truth is that I couldn’t have recognised him, but he recognised me and I was so happy that he did.

Few years ago, in that street, I used to see a homeless man who asked me for some coins “to have breakfast”. He said his name was Johnny and usually I gave him some change I had left, other times I shared some of the food I had with me. Continue reading
