Perfection

I remember a friend of mine who suffered a congenital illness and his body presented some deformities that made him feel bad. Especially during his school years for his classmates were very mean to him. He suffered a lot for that and he decided he would begin a quest to find perfection.

If he had not a perfect body, he would find perfection in other areas of his being. So, he decided to practice several sports so he could get a better physique, and he became a good boxer with great muscles. He even represented his country in the Olympic Games.

But he did not feel that his quest was complete. Having a strong body and Olympic medals was not enough and he told me he did not feel even close to perfection. Continue reading

Next morning…

The merry voices of fishermen coming back from a hard day of being under the Sun for hours, was mixed with the voices of hundreds of people returning home in those huge boats called Vapur.

Everybody looked tired but happy, since their workday had finished and they were free to relax and forget about their problems for a while.

The coffee shops were full of men talking and laughing as if they were the happiest people on Earth.  Everything looked in order everywhere you looked.

The Bosphorus Bridge was packed with cars going both directions, loaded with people wishing to get home as soon as possible so they could share a delicious meal with their loved ones. Continue reading

Jealousy

We have been educated to be self-centred in many ways.  Of course, you need to have your own things, for your personal use.  And certainly, we all want to have our loved ones near us.

But have you noticed how desperate we get when they go away, even for a little while?

I believe most of us have made some crazy things to get the attention of someone we are interested in or, to keep them by our side.

Jealousy is a big illness, it has caused big tragedies in the history of humanity. It transforms us and affects our whole body and soul.

But something I have noticed and discussed with many people from different backgrounds in life, is the futility of falling into its trap. Continue reading

New beginnings

When I received the news, I couldn’t believe it was happening to me.  I had not time to get sick, I had no time to rest, I had no time to waste my time changing my life style.

There should be a quick way to get rid of that illness.

After all, we do everything fast nowadays, we do not have to cook anymore, we eat fast food, we take our clothes to the laundry and pick it up cleaned and ironed, so we don’t have to waste time doing it ourselves, we use a taxi service to take us everywhere so we don’t have to drive anymore, our smartphone will find the shortest and fastest way so we don’t waste a second in the traffic.

We live our life at high speed and we are used to get what we want fast and easy.

The internet answers all our questions and provide us with all the information we need in seconds.

So there is no excuse for an illness to overstay in our bodies. There has to be a pill, a treatment or a method for me to get rid of anything that dares to slows down my everyday’s pace. Continue reading

Forgiveness

It seems very difficult to forgive someone who has done something that really damaged us in some way.

But time has taught us that everyone receives what he or she deserves, even if we don’t see it.  Many times I have heard people complaining about that, but we don’t know what really happens in other people’s life, so definitely we cannot affirm anything whatsoever.

In many cases, when possible, after some deep research we have found out that the lives of people who have been considered as bad or harmful to others have lived a tormented inner existence. Continue reading

Your silence

Nowadays, empty words are such a trend. Everybody has to say something all the time.

Even when they do not know what to say or they have no idea of what they are talking about.

If someone else is talking about something that happened to them the day before, people usually have an anecdote “more interesting”, “more frightening”, “more fabulous” to add.

If someone has some kind of illness or is going through a difficult time, there will always be that person who is going through something much more terrible than the others. As if demeaning other´s people problems and dilemmas was some kind of contest. Continue reading

 Let them go

One of the hardest things in life is, when someone we love, leaves permanently.  When a loved one leaves this physical plane or just follows a different path, it is hard for us to admit it.

Sometimes we even get really mad with God, the Universe or just Destiny, but it is always very difficult to accept and understand their departure.

I was talking with a group of students about the death of a famous singer who was killed by a gunshot by accident, (He was mistaken by somebody else). Continue reading

It’s ok (Note to self)

It’s OK to wake up one morning feeling drained, without your usual joy of life on and to decide in that very moment to take the day off. Just to gather enough strength to carry on with your journey.

It is valid to decide today not to feel gratitude for the good things you have got and, to let your heart feel that nostalgia for the days and people who are no longer here with you.

It is acceptable to decide to let anger and sadness to fill your heart and soul for a while because those feelings are a part of your human nature and have a reason to exist in you. Continue reading

Opposites

Why do bad things have to exist? If God is so “good” as they say, then why he allows the bad and the ugly to exist?

These are common questions we all hear all the time.

And have you ever imagined a world without opposites?

It could not exist at all actually.

We need a point of comparison to be able to “measure” things. How would you know if something is cold if there was not hot? Silly example I know I am just trying to make my point here. Continue reading

The art of healing

“The wish for healing has always been half of health.” – Seneca

Nowadays the word “healing” has been taking different meanings, it can refer to physical healing, moral, mental or spiritual alleviation.

The pharmaceutical industry has been presenting an image of physical healing as something you will obtain only by the consumption of chemical medicaments. Religions have given us the image that spiritual and moral healing (“salvation”) is obtained by attending to a place to worship divinity and follow certain rules implemented by humans etc.

It seems we all have our own concept of healing, but have you noticed that there are people who apparently are searching for healing but that are avoiding it at the same time? Continue reading
