Personal

We react too fast to external events nowadays. I am talking about the way we take other people’s words.

You are walking quietly dowd the stree, minding your own business and suddenly someone pops up at the corner and bumps into you. That person began screaming at you as if it was your fault for being in their way and began saying awful things about you.  People look at the scene without giving it importance and following their way, but for you it was a very traumatic event.

You cannot understand why that person is in such a rage when you did not even crash against them in purpose.

But you had to listen a whole list of adverbs and probably you even learnt some new ones, without understanding the real reason for it. Continue reading

Experience

I was talking to an older friend, about his life and the experience he has gained through the years.

As a child, I had the idea that life gives us experience through different events and that every old person was wise and experienced in all areas of life.

I always thought that someone who had been on this planet for many decades had been able to gather all the knowledge in the world, but that idea began to fade as I grew up and had to work with many old people.

My friend who has been on this Earth for a little more of 8 decades, was amazed with my concepts and told me that experience and strength were not dependent of the age but on endurance. Continue reading

Extreme

I was talking to a friend who works in the army. He was saying that in some special training they are taken to the extremes, they are tested so they can learn how far their bodies and minds can go.

He said that civilians are unaware of what we can do because we are never tested that way that we never know what we can endure because we are not taken to those levels of resistance.

I believe he is right, but on the other hand I think we are tested too by the problems and situations we have to face during our life.  Not all of us need to be left in the jungle for some weeks to try to survive eating snakes and roots, but some people have to survive in many other ways and I have met people who have been able to master their bodies and minds to a point I would call them Spiritual Rambos. It´s about to get easier

I know, these have been very difficult times, lots of tests, lots of lessons yet to learn but, if you look back now, you can contemplate a long and very bumpy road behind you.

If they had told you, in the beginning, that the road ahead of you would be so ragged, probably you would have chosen a different path.  Nevertheless, you are here now, you transited that hilly highway and here you are, taller, stronger, wiser. Congratulations!

When I learnt to skate by myself, I did fall many times, bruised my knees, crashed against other skaters, Streetlights, walls and many other hard objects I found on my way to master it. It was a very painful learning period, but it was totally worth it.

Skating has been for me a wonderful way to feeling myself really free. Feeling the air caressing my face while I glided around the rink, has been one of the most wonderful experiences in my life. Continue reading

Spiritual fitness

Most of my friends are always looking for tips and guidance to be physically fit.  This is a common trend nowadays all over the world.

But despite walking a lot, eating only healthy food and taking care of myself as much as I can, sometimes I feel the weakest and more unattended part of my being is my inner self.

So, after doing some research, I have found some tips to increase your inner strength and feel more powerful every day.

Some of this tips might not apply in your case but try them anyway and see if you get better results. Continue reading

Procrastinating your well-being

“And when I have a new house, then I will be happy” this woman said to her companion in a loud voice as if she wanted the whole world to find out.

“Then I shall know that everything I have done was worth it, all the pain, all the hard work, my suffering.”  The lady who was sitting beside her looked at her in silence.

“Then I’ll be able to smile again and know everything will be alright. “she concluded in a triumphant tone.

The lady who was travelling with her asked her after a few seconds: “how long have you waited for that to happen?”

“Thirty years” the first lady answered. Continue reading

Mistakes

I was standing in the middle of the gym with all my classmates staring at me amusingly watching my intents to defend myself against my opponent.

I was the smallest bloke in the class, in age and size, but at that time I was not very interested in their opinion about me.

I loved martial arts and despite of my efforts, the combat ended up really bad for me.

But in that particular moment, for some reason that was irrelevant to me and after that humiliating exercise, my teacher made a long list of all the appalling mistakes I made that time.  Actually I made all the known and unknown faults listed in the manual. But I was so focused on my passion for training that it didn’t sound intimidating or discouraging to me. Continue reading

Contributing

One of the most difficult things I have tried to get over with is that feeling of not doing enough to make this a better world for me and others.

Sometimes I feel so useless and powerless while trying to find a better way to do things. I wish there was an “app” in my mind to help me find the best and fastest way to accomplish those long awaited and unfulfilled dreams in my heart.

But I guess sometimes Life has a way to “help” you learn things faster and that is by giving you experiences where you can apply those things you have been reading and learning about through many different sources. But when times comes for you to “utilise” the tools you have received throughout your life, is when real “knowledge” comes.

It is really amusing to listen to those people who believe their “truth” is the only reality that exists.  And you can find examples everywhere and at all levels. From regular people to professors at prestigious universities throughout the world.

We all cling to our own particular “truth” and what others think Is just unfounded rubbish. Yes, I am sure you know many examples of this as well. Continue reading

It is not personal

I was observing an elderly man in the underground station who seem to be very upset, walking from one side to the other and talking to himself all the time.

A group of students were playing, shouting, and pushing one another near this man. Suddenly one of the students tripped and fell right in front of that man, making him fall, the old man obviously got really mad, yelling and accusing the young guy of attacking him. But the student instead of apologising and helping the old man to get on his feet again, he began answering back to him calling him blind and useless.

The elderly man of course, got even more furious and stood up trying to punch the student, most people saw the scene from this point since all the shouting had attracted their attention until that moment, but they didn’t see the beginning of the incident.

So when they saw a grown up man trying to hit a young lad, they began attacking him and this incident turned into a whole mess. Continue reading

Young

I am happy to say I have been privileged and blessed in many ways, throughout my life I have been able to meet and work with people who have been considered the best in their particular fields and I have learnt so much from them.

I was talking to a friend who is very concerned with ageing. She is not that old but she feels her body is not responding as before and now her mind is focused on her “lacks” instead of doing something about them. (Lack of mobility, lack of concentration, lack of sleep, and so on.)

I was just telling her about those people I have known in my life and who had been very successful, and their main characteristic had been “activity”.  They keep moving all the time, they walk a lot, keep studying new subjects a lot, they are open to new ideas and subjects a lot, they exercise a lot and watch their diets a lot.

A friend of mine who is 87 years “young” has a spirit of a man of 25, he actually is much more active and enthusiast than most of the young people I know. Continue reading
