It´s for you (Note)

Thanks to our present schooling system, we are practically forced to study different subjects. Usually the average student just learns things to pass a test. After the examination they usually forget everything, if they don´t use that information often.

So, we are used, from a very young age, to learn as an obligation. Therefore, we take it as hard work and we tend to see it as something boring and difficult. Some parents even use it as a punishment. No wonder why we take it as a burden instead of a blessing.

As soon as we go out of school we feel “free” because we won´t need to keep reading books and studying weird subjects for hours. And we keep our concept on studying intact. Until one day we discover a topic we love.

Then, studying that subject becomes a pleasure. The more we are attracted by it, the more we spend time investigating about it.

It is until that moment that we understand the true pleasure of learning.

Your journey

I was exhausted, the four hours walk to the pond in the middle of an uninhabited jungle had been difficult, but nothing compared to the way back.

Climbing back to the top of that valley was a daunting task for me, I was not very used to walk for so many hours in the outdoors, and the Sun was really at its peak hour, so I was really wishing to get back to the car and drive back home.

I had to take little rests from time to time and the closer to the top I got, the more frequent stops I made.

When I was about to reach the last tract, I was making my best effort to pull my body up when all I could see were a pair of perfectly polished shoes in front of my eyes.  My stunned eyes kept going upwards just to observe very well ironed beige trousers, a white shirt and a smiling face who greeted me with a cheerful voice: “Did you enjoy the trip?”, he said. Knowledge

I remember that day when a friend of mine was teaching me how to repair an oil filter in his car. I was about 10 years old, he was much older than me but he was very patient.

The hours passed unnoticed and I was dazzled with all the little bits and pieces inside an engine.

My friend was so surprised of my commitment to learn more about engines, that he invited me on a different occasion to ensemble a whole engine for a car he was reconstructing. Continue reading

Your tools

When I was a child, I was always questioning why “bad” things existed.

Why God had invented “pain”, “fear”, “sadness” and so on?

We would be much happier if there was no such thing as fear, right? But then, I was explained that without fear I would not be alive today.  If fear would not let me know my life is in danger when I approach a precipice, I would continue walking and probably fall to my death. But fear was there to stop me in time and keep me from jumping and getting killed or badly injured.

If that fear were not there to activate my instinct of conservation, then I would easily lose my hand when I cook or work with my electric saw. Or I could get easily killed by walking at night through dangerous places, etc.

So, that little voice is not that bad after all. Continue reading

The best I can do

I still have problems defining when I have to stop trying to do things. On one side my mind tells me to “make things happen” and the other side says “do not force things and go with the flow”.  And that is like trying to drive with one foot on the accelerator and the other on the brake at the same time.

I know, sometimes life asks you to go beyond your normal efforts in order to achieve more meaningful things and sometimes you need to allow things to freely flow because with your pressure you are only slowing things down.

But how do you know when acting one way and when acting the other? Continue reading

Repeating

Why was I so afraid to ride a bicycle that day? I had enjoyed riding my bike as a child and despite the fact that many years had passed, the memory of those joyful days riding through the parks were still fresh in my mind.

So how come I suddenly felt so scared to ride a bicycle?

After all, my uncle Richard just wanted me to see the beautiful sights of east England! What could be wrong with that?

Just the view of that bicycle made me shiver. I felt a huge fear in my solar plexus and that kept me from accepting my uncle’s invitation.

It took me a while to detect where that fear came from.

I thought all my memories related to bicycles were good, but after a detailed scrutiny of my deepest memories, I was able to reminisce the last time I rode a bike as a child. Yes, a long long time ago.

I could remember I lost control of the bike and I felt down hurting myself badly, due to the accident my bicycle got damaged and I couldn’t ride it anymore.  After that I move to a new house and changed bicycles for roller skates. So that was the end of my cycling career.

But some way, my brain saved that feeling of pain and fear of the accident and filed it in a section of my mind that was not consulted very often, so my conscious mind did not have it very present. Therefore, it was apparently forgotten.

Bizarre

Have you notice how we tend to worry like crazy, have the blackest thoughts, imagine the worst scenarios, overstress our body and lose sleep and hunger like crazy?

And after all that, things work out in bizarre ways in the end.

We feel so relieved after the things were not as bad as we imagined that we forget to look back and see all those nasty details that robbed us from our health and peace of mind.

So when next test arrives, will you once again go through the same process of worrying, losing sleep and appetite and damage our body as much as we can.

When are you going to learn that life has uncommon ways to fix things? When are you going to learn that you are more than capable to handle the things that are in front of you right now? Otherwise, they wouldn’t be there. Continue reading

This lesson I learnt today

Many years had passed since the last time I talked to him, but it was such a nice surprise to see him again. His look was as usual strong but more relaxed at the same time. It was difficult to say what the real difference was.

We had share many years in our childhood but our paths took different directions. But now that we had found each other again it was so nice to be able to talk about the good old times and share the new as well.

After sometime of listening to his story and then taking my turn to tell mine, we were so amazed of how different our lives had been and being now sharing this little moment here and now was even more amazing. Continue reading

Do it for you

The more you advance in life, the more you realise that your reality has more to do with yourself than with external elements.

We are taught to avoid selfish attitudes and to pay attention on the opinion of the rest of the world, before considering our own.

You try sometimes to be good to other people, specially your loved ones, but time teaches you that you cannot make them love you, as you love them, you cannot expect them to be as good and loyal to you, as you are to them. You cannot force them to see life as you do, because they have their own view of the world, they have their own needs and they experience a different life with different perspectives and ideas, even if they spend all the time near you. Rejection

I was beginning to feel worried, two of my friends were talking about different experiences with rejection and how awful they felt afterwards.  They were totally devastated.

Of course I have faced rejection many times and it made me feel like dying and almost ended with many projects I once had. But the reason I was feeling a little worried was that now I really don’t care very much about rejection itself. Continue reading
