Being you

We are living very interesting times.

It seems evident that the easiest thing in this life should be, being ourselves.

If you have born with a particular set of characteristics, gifts, things to learnt and to share with others. Being yourself should come easy and without any effort whatsoever.

But as amazing as it sounds, nowadays it has become one of the hardest things to achieve.

This society is teaching us that being who we are is not enough. We need to have certain requirements in order to fit into today’s perfect model.

Of course, nobody can accomplish such a task, but everybody is doing their best to show others that they can. Continue reading

Because of you…

She was a very strong and courageous woman.

She had a very difficult life and she had to learn to be tough in order to survive in a world made by men. In the world outside, she had to keep a rough and strong image.

Despite all the harsh situations she had to face, her loving and kind nature was kept very deep into her soul.

She had a big heart and her compassion was evident when she helped other people in need, whether they were a friend or a perfect stranger, to her they all deserved compassion. Continue reading

Imperfect

A good friend of mine was born with a strange condition that affected his body. He was very tall and his head and hands were bigger in proportion to the rest of his body.

He had suffered very much during his childhood because the other children mocked him and called him names that hurt his soul deeply.

He had to get used to the way people stared at him on the street and to the impertinent questions of those with no manners whatsoever, who never touched their hearts before making harsh remarks about his looks.

Anyway, he has got a wonderful personality.  He is very kind and compassionate with every living being.  He pursued a career in acting and due to his image, he got important roles in international movies. Continue reading

You are more than fine

you

Advice on how to be a good business partner, a better spouse, friend, lover, student, boss and so on. Are everywhere.

You can see in most magazines and newspapers, a section dedicated to those subjects. Everybody has something to tell you on how to be a better “version of yourself”.

All this information, as everything else in life, might be very useful and, of course, we can learn a lot when we try to apply it to our daily life but, on the other hand, we need to be extremely vigilant of what we accept and what we take with a pinch of salt.

We are all individuals, we are all different (fortunately). We can try to do things differently in order to learn new ways to do things, even faster and better.

But when it comes to your own nature, your own personality, your own being. Things are very different. Continue reading

There is a reason

The afternoon was beautiful, the blue sky showed just a few clouds in the distance and the river Cherwell remained calmed as usual with a few couples punting in the distance.

My friend professor H, is very well known for his discoveries in physics and specially for his theories in quantum mechanics. But that evening, his lesson had nothing to do with the behaviour of particles or other dimensions.

He was more quiet than usual, but today he looked more distant than other times. I didn’t want to interrupt his thoughts and I just limited to walk beside him in silence.

He suddenly stopped and said in a loud voice: “Everything is just about understanding” and continued his promenade. Continue reading

Perfect timing

I am glad I am not the one in charge of time in this universe.

It is well known that trying to please everyone is the easiest way to end as a permanent inhabitant in the madhouse.

Can you imagine listening to every person on the planet asking you to accelerate, slow down, turn back and stop the time every second?

Sometimes you wish your day would pass really slow (like some Sundays) or you are looking forward for a date to arrive soon or, on the contrary you are dreading for a particular day to come.  So you wish you could slow down the passing of time or, in certain occasions, stop it totally. The best I ever had

Why is it that when somebody dies he or she becomes the best person on the planet?

Why after a love is gone, we realise after a while, that he/she was the “love of our life”?

Why do we have to face loss, in order to find the good aspects of people, places and things?

And you can apply that to practically everything with the exception of abusive people and bad situations. But even in those cases I have seen people who, when an abusive person who made their life a real hell, dies. They begin to find the “good” in them.  Sometimes an excess of dependency? An addiction to old beliefs? Whatever… Continue reading

Reappearance

I was so happy and surprised to see him. He had changed so much after all these years. He looks now in a better shape, healthier and much happier.

The truth is that I couldn’t have recognised him, but he recognised me and I was so happy that he did.

Few years ago, in that street, I used to see a homeless man who asked me for some coins “to have breakfast”. He said his name was Johnny and usually I gave him some change I had left, other times I shared some of the food I had with me. Continue reading

“Fast method”

We have talked many times about the importance of cycles in life. We are now used to do the things in faster ways than before. In the old times making a cake could take hours, then the instant cakes boxes arrived and it would take us almost an hour to have it on the table, nowadays  we rather go and buy one at the bakery so we don´t have to waste time making it.

This doesn’t apply only to fast-food, we are in the search for “fast-anything”, we seem to be too busy trying to accomplish a hundred thing in our agenda every day and we end up doing two or three things actually.

We are even trying to find faster things methods to reach Nirvana. Now we don’t want to go through the whole process of reaching enlightenment, we want to be a Buddha, and we want it NOW. Continue reading

The art of healing

“The wish for healing has always been half of health.” – Seneca

Nowadays the word “healing” has been taking different meanings, it can refer to physical healing, moral, mental or spiritual alleviation.

The pharmaceutical industry has been presenting an image of physical healing as something you will obtain only by the consumption of chemical medicaments. Religions have given us the image that spiritual and moral healing (“salvation”) is obtained by attending to a place to worship divinity and follow certain rules implemented by humans etc.

It seems we all have our own concept of healing, but have you noticed that there are people who apparently are searching for healing but that are avoiding it at the same time? Continue reading
