Continuum

“Our main problem here is that we allow our mind to wander free when we need it to be focused and to focus on the things we should release.” The Lama said.

“We need to discipline our mind to avoid being dominated by the continuum…” He continued.

“And what is the continuum?” I asked, abruptly interrupting him.

He looked at me with a smile and answered: “What we call continuum, are those thoughts that seem to never leave our mind. Those sounds and memories that keep repeating as a broken old record in our mind without control”.

“It is like a song you listen on the radio once, the rhythm is catchy, you like it, and suddenly, you find yourself singing it without being conscious of it.  After a few hours and even days later, your mind keeps repeating a small portion of the song until you become conscious of this constant repetition.”

“The same happens with certain sentences or lines you hear in movies, TV, from friends, etc.”

“All that energy keeps your mind busy the whole day.  The problem is that some old and negative thoughts, ideas and feelings are trapped by your mind, forming a continuum that becomes very difficult to get rid of, forming a very negative mentality and creating many problems in your mind. “

“Then you ask yourself why bad things appear in your life.”

I remained silent for a few minutes and then asked him: “Can we do something about it? Can we really change that continuum? Can we program our own content?  Can we create a permanent continuum in our head at will?”

He laughed loudly and added: “Of course you can, actually you must, if you want to change your life and create a better present for yourself and all sentient beings.”

I remained in silence for a while. He was right. I was still struggling to stop repeating a jingle I heard on the radio a few days back and the more I tried to stop it, the more my mind kept repeating in the least expected moment.

Norman Vincent Peal said that motivation is like a flower, you need to water it every day to keep it from dying.

I am sharing in these chapters my thoughts and life experiences with the hope I can change my inner continuum, by reminding me of those lessons that have shaped my present mindset.

I hope you find something useful in them and maybe they could give you some ideas to create a better continuum for yourself.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for coming with me in this inner quest.

May the Light be with you always.

Building the new

In a time of fast changes in technology, politics, society, ideologies and so on and so forth, being static seems to be “out of fashion”.

New discoveries in science appear and our ideas and old prejudices must change as well. Quantum physics is really weird and although it seems it cannot affect your “reality” directly, some of its effects are beginning to be understood nowadays.  We are changing the way we see our universe and there will be radical changes in our mentalities and dogmas in science and religion.  Yes, you have read well, there are dogmas in science too, believe it or not.  But we´ll talk about it some other time. There are many stubborn “scientists” out there who prefer to look to the other side when a new idea appears, since it is much more comfortable to remain believing in the old concepts than work on understanding and testing the new ones. A new cycle

A cycle is just a series of events that are regularly repeated in the same order. Just as the day precedes night and spring precedes summer and then comes autumn, then winter and the cycles begins once more. Actually there is no beginning nor ending.

The same happens with every kind of cycle. A school year, a relationship cycle, a work cycle and so on.

Then how can we start a new cycle so we can change the things we didn’t like and get out of the inertia that is keeping us repeating the inner cycles that we need to get rid of.

The only way to “get off” a cycle we don’t want to repeat once more is making a radical change, so you can overcome the inertia, (that property of matter that keeps the same state of rest or motion unless changed by an external force). Continue reading

Square one

Most people of a certain age I know like to see their life backwards. That is, they like to see all the things they have accomplished during their lives. How things were tough once and they were able to overcome the obstacles and fight to get what they wanted.  But 95% of them when I ask them if they would go through all of that from square one, they answer: NO!

So most of them have lived a life full of difficulties and have learnt to overcome them and they are now in a privileged place because they passed their tests. Nevertheless they don’t like the idea of starting all over again.

They feel they have reached the goal and now they can just rest and live looking at the past for the rest of their lives. Continue reading

Envy

He showed me his brand new mobile phone, it was nice, more RAM memory (working memory), faster processor, and the battery seems to last longer, so less time to keep worrying about finding a place to charge his phone during the day.

I loved the colour and the screen looked much brighter and with a better definition.

I handed back the mobile to him with a smile and he just looked at me for a while in silence.  Then he asked me if I was not going to say anything about it.

So I told him once more that I liked the mobile very much and that I was happy for him and to enjoy his new acquisition.  And really I felt very happy for him, he was pleased and you can easily tell it. His eyes had that excited sparkle inside. Continue reading

the next step

(Note: This is not my personal story, this is the story of a dear friend who now has a wonderful mansion outside London, he share this lesson with me and now I am sharing it with you as well. I hope we all can learn something useful from it)

I was so used to live in that house that the idea that I would leave it someday never crossed my mind.  I had lived there since I was 5 years old. It was small but very comfortable and to my eyes it had everything I needed.

I thought that house would be my home for the rest of my life. Continue reading

Travelling

Travelling means different things for every person. I remember I got very excited when I was a child as holydays approached. I knew we were going to travel somewhere.

Some holidays, we went to visit family and after a while that became a little boring because every occasion we were doing the same things with the same people and going to the same places.  Fortunately my mother decided we needed to see new places and began taking guided tours to different places everywhere. Go and find out

He was a very well known actor, films and soap operas were his main activity, but as happens to every actor one day the phone stopped ringing. For a few years he was able to survive with the money he had made with his career, so he had no financial worries for a while, but when things began to look difficult he got worried and began looking for new adventures.

We talked about his other artistic talents and I asked him about some paintings and sculptures he showed me many years ago, he used to love painting and carving sculptures and he was very good at it. Continue reading
