My Japanese friend was very upset and she asked me to listen to her (online) for a while about an incident she had with an old man the day before. She was very distressed.
Being a westerner, my mind flew too high and what at first I thought it was something more severe, luckily it happened to be, (and I am happy it was so) more of a generational conflict than a physical aggression.
He was a Japanese man who was born before Wold War II, he was amazed by the way young people nowadays are living an easier life with much more opportunities and comfort than he had in his time. Continue reading →
Have you notice how we tend to worry like crazy, have the blackest thoughts, imagine the worst scenarios, overstress our body and lose sleep and hunger like crazy?
And after all that, things work out in bizarre ways in the end.
We feel so relieved after the things were not as bad as we imagined that we forget to look back and see all those nasty details that robbed us from our health and peace of mind.
So when next test arrives, will you once again go through the same process of worrying, losing sleep and appetite and damage our body as much as we can.
When are you going to learn that life has uncommon ways to fix things? When are you going to learn that you are more than capable to handle the things that are in front of you right now? Otherwise, they wouldn’t be there. Continue reading →
Reading an article about religions in the world nowadays, I arrived to the conclusion that we are reaching the point where we will have our own personal philosophy and in the end we will leave rituals and rules behind.
Sorry to talk about this, if you know me, you know I don´t like to talk about religion, sports, politics, etc. But this time I just want to rant a little about the problem of intolerance.
We can see in the media all the problems that the lack of respect for the beliefs of others are causing. Continue reading →
Being on computers since…. Well, a long time, yes even before Gopher existed (the grandfather of Google, yahoo, etc.) I know, I know I am an ancient soul. Even before the web and, when telnet was the most advanced “communication tool”, I have been observing the same pattern.
One of the first things I do when someone calls me hysterical at 3 am asking for help because their computer is broken is to ask them: What did you installed before that happened?
Usually their answer is “That a friend who know everything about computers, installed a program or modified something in the operating system”. Continue reading →
I know you have heard many times that we are all different. No matter how long we have lived in the same community, in the same house and even in the same family. We have a lot in common and yet, we are still different.
You might like to add sugar in your tea, I prefer a little more cream in it instead. You might prefer a bagel with it, I prefer a ring doughnut. You might like to talk about politics, I rather skip that subject.
We can be so different in so many aspects and yet, we can share a nice tea moment, each enjoying, at the same time, our own personal pleasures. Continue reading →
I just received an email from a friend in Japan. She shares with me some of her hopes and fears and I was surprised to see how “similar” our dreams and problems were.
But why was I so surprised? I have been there and when I was in Japan, and actually after getting to know the people and customs there I was “accepted” in the community. To me they were like anyone else and I think I was taken as one more in the bunch.
So where did I begin to think they could feel or experience life in a different way than I do?
Being now on the other side of the planet, when I hear about Japan is like listening from a different world. But that is only an error in my perspective.
Get the real formula for success, this is the true religion, this is the real thing, we’ll get you the only true medicine, this is the real story, do you promise to tell nothing but the truth?
Truth is such a “commercial” term nowadays. It is used, changed, hid, transformed, translated and interpreted in so many different ways that it is so difficult to know the difference. Continue reading →
