Replay (Note to self)

I remember when my daughters loved to spend hours watching their movies on DVD over and over again.

They actually watched the same movie two or three times in a row. They had a whole collection of different titles for children and they loved them all.

Each girl had their favourite, and those I had to watch with them sometimes until I could repeat every line of every character by heart.

Fortunately, once they had watched those movies a trillion times, new ones came out and then they moved to the new stories.

Nowadays they have grown up a little, and they no longer watch one movie several times in a day. (well… not very often anyway). Continue reading

Perfect timing

I am glad I am not the one in charge of time in this universe.

It is well known that trying to please everyone is the easiest way to end as a permanent inhabitant in the madhouse.

Can you imagine listening to every person on the planet asking you to accelerate, slow down, turn back and stop the time every second?

Sometimes you wish your day would pass really slow (like some Sundays) or you are looking forward for a date to arrive soon or, on the contrary you are dreading for a particular day to come.  So you wish you could slow down the passing of time or, in certain occasions, stop it totally. It’s ok (Note to self)

It’s OK to wake up one morning feeling drained, without your usual joy of life on and to decide in that very moment to take the day off. Just to gather enough strength to carry on with your journey.

It is valid to decide today not to feel gratitude for the good things you have got and, to let your heart feel that nostalgia for the days and people who are no longer here with you.

It is acceptable to decide to let anger and sadness to fill your heart and soul for a while because those feelings are a part of your human nature and have a reason to exist in you. Continue reading

Do not wait anymore…

The night was cold and waiting for a bus to arrive was getting on my nerves.  Sometimes waiting for public transport is a real challenge in certain countries where there are no fixed timetables or, they have them but do not respect them.

The weather was getting colder and my patience was vanishing so, despite the time (1:30 A.M.) and being not that far from my destiny I decided I would walk a few minutes and see if the bus would catch up with me a little later.

After all, walking would help me to get warm and keep my mind from complaining about the public transport in this city.

As I began walking I could hear the sound of my footsteps on the pavement. It was the only sound I could hear, so it was nice to listen to the rhythm of my saunter!

I walk a lot, that is one of my favourite pleasures in life, but last night it was cold and I felt a little tired so that is why I had decided to wait for the bus.  But probably the bus driver was cold as well and decided to take a cup of hot tea instead of driving for a change. So I decided to take a walk for a while and enjoy it!

Every now and then I stopped and looked back to see if the bus was finally coming but to no avail. So I kept walking and walking until I reached my destination and the bus never arrived. But I was so happy it didn´t because I really enjoyed the walk.

I was wondering how many times I would have achieved more in my life if instead of waiting for my good to come, I had taken the initiative to go and find it first?  How many blessings did I miss for waiting for them statically? How many opportunities were waiting for me at my destiny, but never discovered them for waiting for them to come and pick me up?

This is certainly no time to stop

I was showing some students some moves with an old Japanese weapon, when one of them asked me to teach him how to make a movement called “finger roll” where the weapon “rolls” over your index finger to reach the opposite position.

When I showed him that move again, he asked me to do it “slowly”.

I just stood there staring at my hand and suddenly realised that it was not possible to do that movement slowly since it was thanks to the force of inertia that that movement was possible. And it needed a certain speed and strength that were not possible to achieve with a slow speed. Continue reading

The voice

Wait! You have been through too many things in your life and you might not be perfect, but you are a gem who took a long time and effort to be who you are now.

You have reached this far and it would be a shame if you’d stopped right now and decide to finish your journey just a few inches from your goal.

I know your trip have been difficult, you have survived and you are a living example for all of us who are watching you, even if you haven’t noticed us. Continue reading

Just for Today, forget about it.

Nowadays, our life is always in a fast pace.  Rushing, rushing and rushing all the time. And the rare occasions when we are free for a few instants, instead of use it to rest for a while, we start feeling guilty and immediately begin to search for something to do.

It is until our body is really too tired and asking us anyway it can to stop and give it an opportunity to do its recovery job.  Then we finally take a rest and allow our organism to recover and regain its strength. Continue reading

And all ended

It was a hot day in Washington D.C. A thermometer near the “obelisk” marked 100 F, I was drinking water like crazy and almost without noticing, I had already drank two big bottles in a few minutes.

The handle of my briefcase suddenly melted, yes it actually melted! I almost lost my papers when it suddenly fell on the floor and when I picked it up again, I could noticed that the plastic handled had melted, probably a combination between the heat of my hand and that crazy summer.  I could hardly breathe and for a while I wished to be in a cold place in that very moment. Stop the abuse

We cannot only blame the outside world for the “abuse” we have been facing lately.

I am sure you have heard about “bullying”, which is taking control of homes and schools all over the planet.  One of the main aspects we need to take heed of is the “message” we are constantly broadcasting to the outside world, since those individuals who are broadcasting the message of “Abuse me I’ll take it without a fuzz” are the ones who receive the worst load of violence.
