Be Resilient

While talking to a friend yesterday we were commenting about a friend who used to be a very solid and strong man most of his life, but the day his wife passed away, he began to lose his strength and wish to go on living.

It is always hard to lose a loved one, specially a very close person. And once we fall, getting on our feet once more is a daunting task for most of us.

After a lost, a failure, an accident, etc., things get very difficult and recovering our inner strength and peace seems almost impossible. And although time heals almost all wounds, there is always some things we can do to speed up our recovery. Continue reading

Strength

There are days when it takes more strength to get up from bed than others.

They say that when something scares you a little is a good sign for you to go on and do it, but in this world of bad news, excess of stress, lack of natural food and an overextended pessimism makes us very difficult to gather that strength.

That makes us search for something even more difficult to find nowadays: Those people who challenge you to be better, motivate you and impulse you to act.

Most people are just too overwhelmed with all the negative information we receive from everywhere. So, they do not have time to feel better themselves and let alone spreading motivational words around them. Continue reading

Control

Everybody is telling you that you need to control what you think because it is what you attract.  That brings upon us a big burden since we stress ourselves by making a big effort to avoid bad thoughts and feelings.

As human beings, we can experience all kinds of feelings, thoughts, and emotions.

We cannot limit our mind and soul to filter all the time our bad thoughts and feelings. That would not be beneficial, and in the end, it would bring us major health problems.

We do not need to completely avoid newspapers, TV news and the general gossiping around us.

The big difference comes when we do not allow those events to change our self-confidence. Continue reading

It´s about to get easier

I know, these have been very difficult times, lots of tests, lots of lessons yet to learn but, if you look back now, you can contemplate a long and very bumpy road behind you.

If they had told you, in the beginning, that the road ahead of you would be so ragged, probably you would have chosen a different path.  Nevertheless, you are here now, you transited that hilly highway and here you are, taller, stronger, wiser. Congratulations!

When I learnt to skate by myself, I did fall many times, bruised my knees, crashed against other skaters, Streetlights, walls and many other hard objects I found on my way to master it. It was a very painful learning period, but it was totally worth it.

Skating has been for me a wonderful way to feeling myself really free. Feeling the air caressing my face while I glided around the rink, has been one of the most wonderful experiences in my life. Continue reading

At your own pace

Have you ever fell down or felt sad or depressed after a difficult event and a close friend or family member slaps your back and asked to cheer up or just said: “Come on, get over it, just be happy”?

Then they recommended you a good book or a “guided meditation” so you could “get out of the hole” faster?

Of course you are trying to understand what happened, you are trying to heal your wounds and of course you wish you could go above to situation and feel good once more, but you have your own rhythm to do it, right?

I am not saying they are bad, insensitive, cold people, they surely love you and want you to be al right and on your feet once more very soon.  They do not understand your inner needs and situation, so it is important for you to learn and defend your right to heal at your own speed. You have survived

When I was a child I found happy faces everywhere I looked.  Now it is getting more difficult to find them around.  Probably as a child I did not put much attention to other people’s mood, the people I looked at was happier or I was not trained to see a sad or depressed face yet.

“Those were other times” some would answer, “People then had fewer worries, these times are more difficult” is a common response nowadays.

I am not sure how to classify it, but yes, finding happy faces is not as easy for me lately.  Should I move to a different country? Well, not exactly, after travelling a lot I have found all kind of people everywhere, but thanks to the internet now you can talk to people on the other side of the planet in real time and realise that they are not having it easier there either. It’s ok (Note to self)

It’s OK to wake up one morning feeling drained, without your usual joy of life on and to decide in that very moment to take the day off. Just to gather enough strength to carry on with your journey.

It is valid to decide today not to feel gratitude for the good things you have got and, to let your heart feel that nostalgia for the days and people who are no longer here with you.

It is acceptable to decide to let anger and sadness to fill your heart and soul for a while because those feelings are a part of your human nature and have a reason to exist in you. Continue reading

Strength

We all have gone through difficult experiences, some more than others, but we all have survived the hard times.

I met once a survivor of the Hiroshima bomb, she was a very kind and sweet old woman.

When I was told she was a survivor of that terrible event, I just couldn´t believe it. She looked so peaceful, so sweet and so happy with life I just couldn´t believe she had gone through such an awful life experience!

Of course, you say, too many years have passed after that horrible incident, but let me tell you that I have met people who had far less awful experiences that had marked their character and personality. Continue reading

The test

When you study a particular subject you are aware that after a certain period of time your teacher will try to evaluate your learning level by applying an exam.

Most educational systems have this habit of doing exams weekly, monthly some even more often and then at the end of the school period.

Nobody object this.  We all accept it, if not willingly at least we don´t make a big fuss about it. Continue reading

The wall

We have all met a dead end in our paths. We are suddenly walking freely with no obstacles on our way when after the first turn we find a dead end, a big wall right in front of us that makes us stop in an abrupt manner.

Then we need to decide what to do next. Stay there looking at the wall trying to figure out some way to climb it, go through it, under it or whatever other option we might find. Or we can just turn around and search for a new path to continue our journey. Continue reading
