I had no idea how to repair a scratch on the paint of a metallic surface and I was going mad trying to find some video online that showed me how to do it.
I tried some suggestions but they were not what I needed. There are not many answers online for my particular problem.
So, I was about to quit and accept to live with that scratch when, while walking in a busy street, I saw an old man creating real masterpieces on metallic plates with his fingers and a few other handmade tools.
I stood there for a few minutes contemplating in awe the ability of that man and the wonderful paintings he was creating in a few minutes, right before an admired crowd.
After a while, he began to pick up his belongings and his unsold paintings, so I decided to approach him and ask for his advice on how to solve my problem. Continue reading →
When I was a child, I was always questioning why “bad” things existed.
Why God had invented “pain”, “fear”, “sadness” and so on?
We would be much happier if there was no such thing as fear, right? But then, I was explained that without fear I would not be alive today. If fear would not let me know my life is in danger when I approach a precipice, I would continue walking and probably fall to my death. But fear was there to stop me in time and keep me from jumping and getting killed or badly injured.
If that fear were not there to activate my instinct of conservation, then I would easily lose my hand when I cook or work with my electric saw. Or I could get easily killed by walking at night through dangerous places, etc.
It is very difficult to understand many concepts or even know where you are located right now without a reference point, which is a mark that allows you to compare or locate your position relative to external elements.
Our brain is a super computer that keeps comparing and evaluating everything around us all the time. Besides all the other things the brain has to do to keep us alive. So we actually are not aware of all the impressive processes our brain has to perform 24/7.
But as ironic as it sounds, Life gives us strange ways sometimes for us to compare and set new reference points in and learn our lessons, many times the hard way.
Sometimes you get tired of your own town, city, country, etc. So you decide to travel. Then you see new things, you meet new people with new customs, you try new food and so on. After a while, you begin to compare those new experiences with your home and then you begin to feel nostalgic and begin feeling the wish to go back. Continue reading →
We all need to accept the fact that each one of us is responsible for our own results. Good or bad. And that we should not give any one else that power either.
I was talking to a friend of mine who decided to leave her country to live with indigenous communities in the jungle. She goes to different zones in south america to carry food, medicine and teach people in remote towns to read and write. Among other things.
She is very happy doing what she loves but, lately she has been going through a series of bad moments because her mother died recently and she now feels that she was very selfish due to her passion for travel and leaving her mother and family behind. Continue reading →
After a long period of hardships in your life. After all the hard test have been overpowered, the most difficult thing is to leave those bad feelings behind.
Getting over a bad experience does not mean that you have to pretend the harm never existed. It just means it is no longer directing your life.
I know there are things you will not be able to forget, but at least take the power you once gave them to guide the course of your life for a while and, retake it once more.
I once thought I was not good enough and, that I did not deserve to be happy and prosperous and those thoughts governed my life for a long time. After discovering that there was no external person nor influence to blame, I decided to take that power back and manage it myself to direct it to more fruitful endeavours. Continue reading →
I was talking to a friend about all those bizarre “negative” things and events in our lives.
According to him, his life had always been very harsh and difficult. Many times he had complained about all the things he had to go through to survive, while most of his friends and family had a more relaxed and comfortable life, (at least from his perspective).
He had to overcome several obstacles in his past, in order to reach some things that other people simply obtained or achieved in a very “relaxed” manner, according to his analysis.
He was about to go once more, through the list of difficulties he had to face in his life until this morning, when I was forced to interrupt his litany in order to avoid 45 more minutes of the same old, same old. Continue reading →
One of the most difficult things I have faced, is when I have tried to apply my own theory in my own life.
We think we are so “prepared” and “wise”, that we can give counsel to everyone who come and tell us their problems. But if we are the ones in that situation, applying the same “advices” to our own particular case, it is not as easy to follow as when we tell others what to do with their lives to reach happiness and success.
But what if you pretend for a while that you are an external “adviser” when you are in trouble or in doubt? What would you tell somebody else? Would you follow that advice? Can you “walk your talk”? Continue reading →
Yes, I have talked about this before, but I have seen so many more examples of this lately that I felt compelled to talk about it once more.
Yesterday I went to the market to see if I could find some fruits of the season, but first of all, I realised I didn’t really know what were the fruits of this season but, then I was able to learn a lot about fruits and their care from a pro. Continue reading →
In almost every ancient tradition the role of the teacher is always mentioned with respect and reverence. At least when I was a little child we used to respect and give a very special place to our teachers, I cannot say the same is happening now, since the lack of respect for our teachers and elders will take us to bigger problems we cannot yet see clearly but we should do something about it before is too late.
But once you leave the school and begin your journey in this life, new kinds of teachers appear in different times and places just to remind you the things you already knew but keep forgetting to apply in your daily practice, or to teach you about new perspectives and methods that could help you to be a better you. For you and the rest of the planet. Continue reading →
