The afternoon was beautiful, the blue sky showed just a few clouds in the distance and the river Cherwell remained calmed as usual with a few couples punting in the distance.
My friend professor H, is very well known for his discoveries in physics and specially for his theories in quantum mechanics. But that evening, his lesson had nothing to do with the behaviour of particles or other dimensions.
He was more quiet than usual, but today he looked more distant than other times. I didn’t want to interrupt his thoughts and I just limited to walk beside him in silence.
He suddenly stopped and said in a loud voice: “Everything is just about understanding” and continued his promenade. Continue reading →
Last time I was there I was feeling sad and tired. The field looked at that time dry and colourless. The weather was fine but I felt it cold and asphyxiating. I had lost an aunt who had been as my second mother all my life and from that moment on, life would be very different to what I thought it would be my reality for ever.
A photograph captured that moment. I never dared to see that photo again so it remain for many years hidden in a box.
The image of that field never changed. In my memories it was dry, cold and gloomy. I had never returned to visit that place in all these years. Continue reading →
I have heard so many times that you have to embrace change and difficulties when they come, that I thought I had totally understood the idea. And probably I had, but as usual when it comes to apply our knowledge in real life, things become difficult.
We are all excellent for theory but when practice time arrives, the story is quite different, same thing when giving advice to others, we already know what to say to them in any situation THEY have to face, but when we are in the same predicament, all those answers and solutions vanish from our head. One of the most mind blowing theories Quantum physics is juggling right now is the idea that information builds reality.
Of course it is just a theory and it’s just beginning to go through different scientific filters, but the idea is not really new and there are many “big” names in the field behind it, so I am sure we will hear a lot about it in the near future. Continue reading →
I was listening to a group or people in an event who were talking about how good they were at different expressions of art. Some of them were great painters, others were magnificent musicians, some others were masters in a few more disciplines and that is perfect, you might expect to find all that talent in a gallery. That is normal.
But what was really interesting, at least to me, was the other things they loved and had nothing to do with their main talent. There was a painter who loved to cook deserts, grow his own vegetables and hiking. A guitar player who loved bird watching, web design and making his own marmalade. Continue reading →
To say that we can turn off fear like turning off a light switch would be, in most cases, an exaggeration. Unexpected events happen all the time and our reaction is most times unpredictable and uncontrollable, but as we have talked before, what comes after that is, what we can really control and decide how to act about it. One of the main problems Quantum Theory has been facing since its beginnings is that it goes against too many concepts and bases of traditional physics.
The old school of physics is always measuring everything it can, to admit it. As long as they can measure the phenomena, then it exists. But they have been encountering many events they cannot explain with their traditional baggage of knowledge. So they need to invent work theories to try to find new answers or new paths that lead them to those new answers and then is when things get very complicated. Continue reading →
Many years ago, reading an old Tibetan document used to teach little Chelas (little boys from age 7 who study in Buddhist monasteries, the students of a Guru o Geshe) I was surprised to read that they believed, 5000 years ago, that our consciousness created our world.
Listening to a lecture at Chapman University on the last advancements in Quantum theory, I was listening to the same concepts but with different terms.
We are re-discovering knowledge that has long existed. “There is nothing new under the Sun” Ecclesiastes 1:9.Continue reading →
