Some days are difficult to forget. If you had a day full of wonderful times, that day becomes a memory of a lifetime. If you had a day full of problems and bitter moments, that day will too become a memory of a lifetime.
Happily, those days are very rare. Usually our days are a mix of good and bad incidents.
The only difference is that most people are used to focus on those events that make them feel bad. We keep them in a special compartment in our mind and it seems we feel a strange “pleasure” by bringing them back to memory frequently in reunions that end up being “adversity competitions” where the one who has suffered the most wins.
I know playing the victim help some people to bring more attention upon them, and yes, who does not enjoy the “15 minutes of fame” from time to time. Continue reading →
While talking to a friend yesterday we were commenting about a friend who used to be a very solid and strong man most of his life, but the day his wife passed away, he began to lose his strength and wish to go on living.
It is always hard to lose a loved one, specially a very close person. And once we fall, getting on our feet once more is a daunting task for most of us.
After a lost, a failure, an accident, etc., things get very difficult and recovering our inner strength and peace seems almost impossible. And although time heals almost all wounds, there is always some things we can do to speed up our recovery. Continue reading →
I was shocked to see how far into the year we are now. Where have all those days, weeks and hours gone? Life is happening too fast.
Maybe time is accelerating as some people are saying, maybe my daily routine is getting too….mmh…. routinely?
It was a Saturday two weeks ago, when I attended a very interesting conference at a University, I was still trying to let the concepts learnt there sink into my head, when suddenly I saw the calendar and it was Saturday once more! So soon? Where did all the rest of the week go?
Then I decided to make time go slower, yes, if time is a perception of the mind as some theories affirm, then I had to try and make it flow slowly.
I stopped rushing every day and took more time to observe things around me, to enjoy every moment of the day and make an effort to notice those little details that pass unnoticed all the time. Continue reading →
In a time of fast changes in technology, politics, society, ideologies and so on and so forth, being static seems to be “out of fashion”.
New discoveries in science appear and our ideas and old prejudices must change as well. Quantum physics is really weird and although it seems it cannot affect your “reality” directly, some of its effects are beginning to be understood nowadays. We are changing the way we see our universe and there will be radical changes in our mentalities and dogmas in science and religion. Yes, you have read well, there are dogmas in science too, believe it or not. But we´ll talk about it some other time. There are many stubborn “scientists” out there who prefer to look to the other side when a new idea appears, since it is much more comfortable to remain believing in the old concepts than work on understanding and testing the new ones. If someone would tell you right now that you are more “in charge” of your happiness than you think, what would your answer be?
Of course, we all are now aware of our “responsibility and influence” on our own happiness and well-being. We have read a lot lately about how important our thoughts and feelings are to influence our end results.
But most times we need a reminder of this, because as soon as the things become difficult, we tend to forget our own power and immediately go back to “desperation mode”.
The XIV Dalai Lama once said: “If there is no solution to the problem then do not waste time worrying about it. If there is a solution to the problem then do not waste time worrying about it”.
And I have been many times there, where I thought things were very rough and I felt powerless and scared for the “magnitude” of the problems I had right in front of me. But after some time, with the help of others or even through my own merits, I finally realised that things were not as huge as they seemed. Continue reading →
I was in a hurry and as usual I couldn’t find change in my pocket, I had to buy the ticket fast since there were too many people making a line behind me and the time in the early hours of the day pass amazingly fast for everyone.
I finally took a £10 out of my wallet but the ticket machine did not accept it, I needed to pay the exact amount.
I just thought: “I’ll pay the ticket for the person behind me” I turned around and ask a gentleman where he was going, he stared back at me with a puzzled look in his eyes and told me his destination, I bought both tickets and gave him his, he immediately tried to give me the money he had ready in his hand.
I just told him: “It’s ok, keep it” smiled at him and rushed towards the underground that was about to leave the station. Continue reading →
And everywhere I turned my head there were people talking about how difficult this year has been for all.
Changes, radical endings, new beginnings, people leaving, new people appearing, in one word: CHAOS.
But we have learned that Mother Nature does not like chaos. There is not a Law of Chaos anywhere.
What we call chaos is just something we haven’t fully understood. But if we watch closer we will see that everything follows a certain order. Even, if we cannot see it. There is an order and a purpose in everything. Continue reading →
I am glad I am not the one in charge of time in this universe.
It is well known that trying to please everyone is the easiest way to end as a permanent inhabitant in the madhouse.
Can you imagine listening to every person on the planet asking you to accelerate, slow down, turn back and stop the time every second?
Sometimes you wish your day would pass really slow (like some Sundays) or you are looking forward for a date to arrive soon or, on the contrary you are dreading for a particular day to come. So you wish you could slow down the passing of time or, in certain occasions, stop it totally. Continue reading →
