Building the new

In a time of fast changes in technology, politics, society, ideologies and so on and so forth, being static seems to be “out of fashion”.

New discoveries in science appear and our ideas and old prejudices must change as well. Quantum physics is really weird and although it seems it cannot affect your “reality” directly, some of its effects are beginning to be understood nowadays.  We are changing the way we see our universe and there will be radical changes in our mentalities and dogmas in science and religion.  Yes, you have read well, there are dogmas in science too, believe it or not.  But we´ll talk about it some other time. There are many stubborn “scientists” out there who prefer to look to the other side when a new idea appears, since it is much more comfortable to remain believing in the old concepts than work on understanding and testing the new ones. Your real power

If someone would tell you right now that you are more “in charge” of your happiness than you think, what would your answer be?

Of course, we all are now aware of our “responsibility and influence” on our own happiness and well-being.  We have read a lot lately about how important our thoughts and feelings are to influence our end results.

But most times we need a reminder of this, because as soon as the things become difficult, we tend to forget our own power and immediately go back to “desperation mode”.

The XIV Dalai Lama once said: “If there is no solution to the problem then do not waste time worrying about it. If there is a solution to the problem then do not waste time worrying about it”.

And I have been many times there, where I thought things were very rough and I felt powerless and scared for the “magnitude” of the problems I had right in front of me.  But after some time, with the help of others or even through my own merits, I finally realised that things were not as huge as they seemed. Jealousy

We have been educated to be self-centred in many ways.  Of course, you need to have your own things, for your personal use.  And certainly, we all want to have our loved ones near us.

But have you noticed how desperate we get when they go away, even for a little while?

I believe most of us have made some crazy things to get the attention of someone we are interested in or, to keep them by our side.

Jealousy is a big illness, it has caused big tragedies in the history of humanity. It transforms us and affects our whole body and soul.

But something I have noticed and discussed with many people from different backgrounds in life, is the futility of falling into its trap. Continue reading

For no particular reason

I was in a hurry and as usual I couldn’t find change in my pocket, I had to buy the ticket fast since there were too many people making a line behind me and the time in the early hours of the day pass amazingly fast for everyone.

I finally took a £10 out of my wallet but the ticket machine did not accept it, I needed to pay the exact amount.

I just thought: “I’ll pay the ticket for the person behind me” I turned around and ask a gentleman where he was going, he stared back at me with a puzzled look in his eyes and told me his destination, I bought both tickets and gave him his, he immediately tried to give me the money he had ready in his hand.

I just told him: “It’s ok, keep it” smiled at him and rushed towards the underground that was about to leave the station.   Continue reading

Healing time

And everywhere I turned my head there were people talking about how difficult this year has been for all.

Changes, radical endings, new beginnings, people leaving, new people appearing, in one word: CHAOS.

But we have learned that Mother Nature does not like chaos.  There is not a Law of Chaos anywhere.

What we call chaos is just something we haven’t fully understood. But if we watch closer we will see that everything follows a certain order. Even, if we cannot see it. There is an order and a purpose in everything. Continue reading

Perfect timing

I am glad I am not the one in charge of time in this universe.

It is well known that trying to please everyone is the easiest way to end as a permanent inhabitant in the madhouse.

Can you imagine listening to every person on the planet asking you to accelerate, slow down, turn back and stop the time every second?

Sometimes you wish your day would pass really slow (like some Sundays) or you are looking forward for a date to arrive soon or, on the contrary you are dreading for a particular day to come.  So you wish you could slow down the passing of time or, in certain occasions, stop it totally. The best I ever had

Why is it that when somebody dies he or she becomes the best person on the planet?

Why after a love is gone, we realise after a while, that he/she was the “love of our life”?

Why do we have to face loss, in order to find the good aspects of people, places and things?

And you can apply that to practically everything with the exception of abusive people and bad situations. But even in those cases I have seen people who, when an abusive person who made their life a real hell, dies. They begin to find the “good” in them.  Sometimes an excess of dependency? An addiction to old beliefs? Whatever… Continue reading

There is still time

I am impressed of the way young people are limiting themselves nowadays.  Yes, I know I sound like a bitter old man now, but I cannot understand why people are allowing others to control their minds and destinies.

I have been working with young people who have just finished their careers and most of them, are finding out that having a degree in your hands do not automatically make you capable to handle all things before you.

Finishing a career really means that you are ready to begin your journey in that subject but you are really beginning to learn what you will need ahead in your path.  Having a degree means you have learnt the basics but what really matters and is really important for your progress, life will teach you later on the way. This is certainly no time to stop

I was showing some students some moves with an old Japanese weapon, when one of them asked me to teach him how to make a movement called “finger roll” where the weapon “rolls” over your index finger to reach the opposite position.

When I showed him that move again, he asked me to do it “slowly”.

I just stood there staring at my hand and suddenly realised that it was not possible to do that movement slowly since it was thanks to the force of inertia that that movement was possible. And it needed a certain speed and strength that were not possible to achieve with a slow speed. Continue reading
