Procrastinating your well-being

“And when I have a new house, then I will be happy” this woman said to her companion in a loud voice as if she wanted the whole world to find out.

“Then I shall know that everything I have done was worth it, all the pain, all the hard work, my suffering.”  The lady who was sitting beside her looked at her in silence.

“Then I’ll be able to smile again and know everything will be alright. “she concluded in a triumphant tone.

The lady who was travelling with her asked her after a few seconds: “how long have you waited for that to happen?”

“Thirty years” the first lady answered. Continue reading

For no particular reason

I was in a hurry and as usual I couldn’t find change in my pocket, I had to buy the ticket fast since there were too many people making a line behind me and the time in the early hours of the day pass amazingly fast for everyone.

I finally took a £10 out of my wallet but the ticket machine did not accept it, I needed to pay the exact amount.

I just thought: “I’ll pay the ticket for the person behind me” I turned around and ask a gentleman where he was going, he stared back at me with a puzzled look in his eyes and told me his destination, I bought both tickets and gave him his, he immediately tried to give me the money he had ready in his hand.

I just told him: “It’s ok, keep it” smiled at him and rushed towards the underground that was about to leave the station.   Continue reading

The hindrance

Most times we tend to take for granted the importance of hindrances in our paths.

Have you ever transited a long straight highway? I once had to drive for 9 hours from Saudi Arabia to Jordan on a long straight line of “nothingness”.

Most people would think this could be the safest way to travel, “no curves, no danger” right? Wrong.

It is exasperating to keep moving forward with no “twists and curves”. Continue reading

Are you proud?

After all these years of living your life in your own way, after acquiring habits, ideas, skills and knowledge and creating the person you are now. What do you think of the results? Are you proud of your life?

And I am talking on a general level, not specifics.

I know there are many things you have accomplished and that can make your feel proud of yourself. And yes, there are thousands of things you haven’t achieved yet but that shouldn´t make you feel less proud of who you are now. Continue reading

The same?

I was waiting for the tube at a crowded station and I couldn’t help to overhear the conversation of two middle aged ladies happily chatting by my side.

One of them had gone to Spain for the summer and was amazed by some particularities of the language, she said something like this: “In Spain they give a gender to objects, for instance, they call a chair a ´she´, (she meant it is classified as feminine) and a shoe a ´he´ (masculine), that sounded so ´foreign´ She said with an amazed expression on her face.” Continue reading

Travelling

Travelling means different things for every person. I remember I got very excited when I was a child as holydays approached. I knew we were going to travel somewhere.

Some holidays, we went to visit family and after a while that became a little boring because every occasion we were doing the same things with the same people and going to the same places.  Fortunately my mother decided we needed to see new places and began taking guided tours to different places everywhere. Your adventure

Two decades ago I began a great adventure. A world tour visiting 100 cities in 40 countries. We have planned to complete this tour in a year exactly, but it ended up taking more than a year an a half, yes we forget about the unexpected surprises (good and strange) you always find in every trip.
