Trust!

Living in these times, it’s a very exciting and challenging adventure.

Information is always at your fingertips, and you can communicate with people around the world in real-time almost anywhere.

These great advances are making our lives easier in some areas, but very difficult in others.

Contending

I don´t know about you but, I am just tired of seeing the opinion wars on social networks, News media, newspapers, radio, TV and even in the neighbour´s coffee table.

One side says they know what they are talking about, the other side give their “reasons” and instead of people trying to reach a common conclusion, all I see is people trying to defeat the other side.

You can see people complaining about everything but they never give an alternative solution to that situation. Politicians around the world promising to end the unemployment, hunger, war and every human problem there is, if people vote for them, but they never say how they are going to comply, of course they do not have a clue, they just want their votes.

Social networks full of people criticising their governments, their friends and neighbours, but never giving feasible propositions.

And yes, sites like mine complaining about all of them. Continue reading

Perfect timing

I am glad I am not the one in charge of time in this universe.

It is well known that trying to please everyone is the easiest way to end as a permanent inhabitant in the madhouse.

Can you imagine listening to every person on the planet asking you to accelerate, slow down, turn back and stop the time every second?

Sometimes you wish your day would pass really slow (like some Sundays) or you are looking forward for a date to arrive soon or, on the contrary you are dreading for a particular day to come.  So you wish you could slow down the passing of time or, in certain occasions, stop it totally. Looking back

At first, mowing the lawn didn’t seem so complicated. I saw my neighbours do it all the time and they looked so unconcerned about the way they did it, I always thought there was no complication in the process.

But this time I was going to learn a very important lesson.

I was 7 years old and not very interested in learning about gardening and its technical hitches.  But I was visiting a friend in his house and I must admit I was impressed by his garden.  Everything looked so perfect and beautiful!

His father asked me if I could give him a hand by mowing the lawn with an old manual lawnmower. I didn’t see any problem with that, it looked very easy to do, so I began the task with the excitement of trying a new thing. Continue reading

Bizarre

Have you notice how we tend to worry like crazy, have the blackest thoughts, imagine the worst scenarios, overstress our body and lose sleep and hunger like crazy?

And after all that, things work out in bizarre ways in the end.

We feel so relieved after the things were not as bad as we imagined that we forget to look back and see all those nasty details that robbed us from our health and peace of mind.

So when next test arrives, will you once again go through the same process of worrying, losing sleep and appetite and damage our body as much as we can.

When are you going to learn that life has uncommon ways to fix things? When are you going to learn that you are more than capable to handle the things that are in front of you right now? Otherwise, they wouldn’t be there. Continue reading

 Forever

I was very impressed when I listened a professor once who was explaining how our mind was not capable to understand the infinite. “Our mind is finite, therefore it cannot understand the concept of infinite”. He explained.

When they say there is a probability that “the universe was never created and it will never end” our mind immediately enters in conflict, because “eternity” is not an easy concept to grasp. Continue reading

Move it!

Every feeling, every sensation, every emotion has a reason to exist. They are not just a caprice of nature.  They have a function as well.

One of them, I have observed very carefully, is fear and it has surprised me how important it is. This natural mechanism has been implanted in us to “force us to move ahead” nevertheless many times it block us and paralyse us, causing us double damage.

Some species of animals are paralysed by fear and are easily trapped by their predators. But the species which react to danger by moving faster are the ones that are more capable of surviving. Continue reading

This lesson I learnt today

Many years had passed since the last time I talked to him, but it was such a nice surprise to see him again. His look was as usual strong but more relaxed at the same time. It was difficult to say what the real difference was.

We had share many years in our childhood but our paths took different directions. But now that we had found each other again it was so nice to be able to talk about the good old times and share the new as well.

After sometime of listening to his story and then taking my turn to tell mine, we were so amazed of how different our lives had been and being now sharing this little moment here and now was even more amazing. Continue reading

Perceiving

We are taught to trust our senses to recognise our reality. We believe in what we can “touch”, “Seeing is believing” and so forth.

It is logical to take as “real” those things that our five senses can perceive. Our senses were designed for that purpose, right?

Well as a child I loved to play those games in magazines and books where drawings could hide different shapes and only focusing your mind in certain areas of the illustration you could find more “hidden” shapes.  Continue reading

   Get angry!

Few years ago I was imparting a self-defence class in a community centre for women (most of them were rape victims). I was talking about the importance of quickly neutralising the opponent to allow them to escape as soon as possible and/or ask for help depending on the circumstances.

In order to show a technique to keep a stranger at a certain distance and defend themselves from an attack, I asked a tinny woman to help me demonstrate the technique to the other students.

At first, she hesitated and timidly approached. She didn’t dare to look at me and kept her eyes all the time on the floor. Continue reading
