Wordless

You do not need to “share” all your experiences with the rest of the world.

Most of the things we really enjoy are things we cannot punt into words.

I know nowadays it is more important for many people to upload photos of their last trip to their social networks than taking the time to enjoy the moment for themselves.

The other day I was talking with a friend who told me that he had not taken any videos or photographs of his trip because I felt he lost a lot of time taking the photo instead of filling his mind and soul with that moment.   Continue reading

New beginnings

When I received the news, I couldn’t believe it was happening to me.  I had not time to get sick, I had no time to rest, I had no time to waste my time changing my life style.

There should be a quick way to get rid of that illness.

After all, we do everything fast nowadays, we do not have to cook anymore, we eat fast food, we take our clothes to the laundry and pick it up cleaned and ironed, so we don’t have to waste time doing it ourselves, we use a taxi service to take us everywhere so we don’t have to drive anymore, our smartphone will find the shortest and fastest way so we don’t waste a second in the traffic.

We live our life at high speed and we are used to get what we want fast and easy.

The internet answers all our questions and provide us with all the information we need in seconds.

So there is no excuse for an illness to overstay in our bodies. There has to be a pill, a treatment or a method for me to get rid of anything that dares to slows down my everyday’s pace. Continue reading

Consideration

“I must be getting old”, I thought.

When I was younger I remember to feel bad about those grumpy old men who spend their whole time complaining about everything and everyone.

My grandmother used to say: “When I was your age, people were polite, we never disrespect others”. “Your generation knows not what manners are” and so on and so forth.

And now, I have become that old grumpy man who cannot believe his eyes and ears anymore.  Continue reading

Watch your language

I just received a copy of a very interesting study made by three Universities in the United Kingdom on colour perception.

They found a tribe in Africa with a language limited to three words to describe colours.  One word for the dark colours, one for middle range colours and one for very light colours.

To make a long a story short, in one of these studies, they showed different illustrations with different shades of the same colour to members of that tribe and they immediately identified the two shades that had a slight difference. But, when they showed the same illustration to westerners, who did not have different words to define those shades of green, they could not find the difference or took a long time to notice it. They haven´t got different words to describe those colours, therefore those westerners couldn’t find the difference so easily.

But when the scientist showed an illustration with six green squares and one blue square, westerners immediately pointed at the blue square, but people from that tribe couldn’t find it. They have the same word to describe both colours. For them the concept was the same and as colours are concepts we create in our minds, they could not find the difference. Continue reading

What they say

He was in shock! He couldn´t believe his ears. This old and well-dressed woman had just used the worst vocabulary he had heard in years. Even an old truck driver would feel ashamed with the words this woman had uttered against him and (I am not implying that all truck drivers have a bad vocabulary, I know some who read a lot and are well educated). But my friend was furious.

The voice

Wait! You have been through too many things in your life and you might not be perfect, but you are a gem who took a long time and effort to be who you are now.

You have reached this far and it would be a shame if you’d stopped right now and decide to finish your journey just a few inches from your goal.

I know your trip have been difficult, you have survived and you are a living example for all of us who are watching you, even if you haven’t noticed us. Continue reading

Your new trail

“Yes, things were getting very difficult, I felt overwhelmed and every morning I tried to resist the alarm to get up because I just wanted to continue sleeping to avoid having to deal with all the mess I had created for myself”.  He looked tired but with a new light in his eyes.

He had lost his company, his home, his marriage but luckily not the love of his children.  So he was able to find a motivation to get out of the hole he had dug himself into.

“And what about you?  Were you too dwelling in your comfort zone too long? He asked. Continue reading

Defects

It’s so easy to notice a bad performance in a person who is practicing some discipline in front of us.  From a distance criticising is the easiest thing to do.

We can see many people who after some sport event spend hours talking a about the mistakes which took their team or favourite sportsmen to lose the match. Continue reading

Beyond silence

I have met this friend for more than 10 years, he had been a very important person in the media industry and he had always been a very strong and “tough” person.  He had to, he was in charge of one of the biggest entertainment companies in this country.

He has a lovely family and they were his main treasure. Continue reading

Word exercise

One of the best exercises I have ever tried to get results in amazing ways is the “good words exercise”. Have you heard about it?

Well it consist in every time you open your mouth to talk about something, force yourself to speak only positive words.  That’s right! Not an easy task, but forcing yourself to speak only good positive words will keep you from talking tragedies, gossiping and criticising. Continue reading
