Sometime ago, I had the opportunity to meet in person a very well know scientist-writer. He always wrote about very polemic subjects but he was convinced of his concepts and was considered an eminence in his time.
For many years he was able to endure the attacks and criticism of his fellow scientists who were more comfortable with the old theories. He could most times provide good evidence of his own models.
But he started a family and the economic pressures began to emerge. So, he had to start searching for new work opportunities and his life took a 180° turn.
When he was not so “famous” anymore, and he had to abide under the rules of the scientific community (see how I didn´t say under the laws of science) He was politely asked to “rephrase” some of his arguments and personal views in his books, since they “were not in line with the general scientific view”. He was a very active person, one of the most enthusiast men you can imagine. He was a prominent member of his community and General Director of his company. It was very difficult to locate him since he always was doing something somewhere, you know what I mean.
I always thought he would travel the world when he retired. He was so energetic I knew he would enjoy his live to the fullest after his retirement.
“…So I began to visualise the end results I wanted to see in my life and then I stood there staring at the celling in silence wondering what to do next.” He said.
“Well after visualising what you want to manifest, what´s next is to follow your heart, you need to take a step towards what you want to get. If you don’t do anything, even taking a little step so your action moves the rest of the Universe, nothing is going to happen.” Was my answer.
“Ok, ok I know all that, I have read it a thousand times, but the thing is that right now, I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO! I have done everything I know I can do, I have NO idea what the next step is and I need YOU to help me to find out what should I do now. There is nothing more enervating than wishing something and having no idea what to do about it, I cannot keep staring at the ceiling my whole life.” He said desperately. Continue reading →
I constantly read ideas for writers on how to create the characters for their novels. The truth is that only after you have tried to write a novel, a short story, a fable, a poem, etc., you cannot imagine how difficult it really is.
For a writer to be in front of a blank page waiting to be filled with inspiration is a very frightening experience. And believe me, things get worse after the first successful novel. You are required to keep the quality of your stories or actually you are expected to write better with every new book.
So the best thing you can do if you are thinking about writing your first, second, third or 100th novel is to listen to more experienced writers so you can learn from their experiences. Continue reading →
A had a friend who, since he was a little child, his parents taught him he needed to go to church to be able to speak to God.
He always attended his church services 3 times a week. He had the firm belief that the only place to talk to God was his church. I asked him once why he had to rush to his church every time he wanted to pray, if God was everywhere at any time. He just answered that he knew that but, that his parents had planted that seed in his heart and that now he was not able to let it go that easily. Continue reading →
I grew up hearing “if you want things well done, do them yourself”. Usually when you do team work it is very difficult to get the results you would have expected, if you had done the whole work alone.
We all have different gifts, abilities, knowledge, experiences, enthusiasm and interests, so to gather a team where every person will deliver their best to achieve certain result is a very difficult task. Continue reading →
Two decades ago I began a great adventure. A world tour visiting 100 cities in 40 countries. We have planned to complete this tour in a year exactly, but it ended up taking more than a year an a half, yes we forget about the unexpected surprises (good and strange) you always find in every trip. “What was the point of it? Everybody come here to dump their rubbish and I just have to spend hours cleaning this place. I have tried to put ads everywhere and I cannot make them see the importance of keeping this place clean and free of filth and rats. “
That’s what a neighbour used to repeat every day a few years ago. He cleaned every day an abandoned corner lot near his house. People usually dumped bags with rubbish at night and he cleaned it every morning, he was fed up with it. Continue reading →
